#173 - Adapters and a Hail Mary

My plan to sleep in until nine AM was stymied by my fellow co-workers, who started sending Teams messages at the ungodly hour of eight.

But I had to get up early to get the oven disconnected and give the floor and walls behindit a bit of a wash.

The delivery guys showed up just before ten with our new oven and had it in the kitchen and the old one whisked away within minutes. We were able to set up the oven except for attaching the gasline. Turns out we need a small but difficult to source adapter to fit the new stove. A bit of a chore to get it, but after trying Home Depot, I ordered one off Amazon to see if that would fit the bill.

I worked through my lunch to make up for the time I spent with the delivery guys and setting up the stove. I had a produvtive day working and only had two meetings, both of which went well. Things are starting to fall into place on the show.

By five-thirty I was ready to call it quits for the day. We had plans to go see “The Hail Mary Project” with some friends down at the local theatre. My energy levels were pretty low at this point, but I was excited to see the movie version of the book I had loved so much.

We left early to get some tiling supplies at Home Depot and then headed to the theatres kust down the street. We ordered some food at the theatre while we waited for our friend to arrive. The Cineplex Theatre has really good chicken tenders. Robyn order some for herself and I went with the Buffalo Chicken fries. Chicken tender bits over fries with a buffalo sauce. Delicious!

Our friends arrived and we all got ourselves seated.

During the preshow, there was a mystery film advertised where the sleuthing is done bt sheep, goats and rams. A ridiculous concept, but it looked like it was really well written. I suspect it will be a good movie. Has to be better than one of the other movies advertised, “He-Man and the Masters of the Universe.” That movie looked like it was not going to be to my taste. I have friend who I know will be excited about it, but I will wait for it to be on one of the streaming services for free. Rather watch the sheep detectives.

The movie we came to see, was a book I had read a year or two ago. I read it whenever it was first released anyways as I love a good Andy Weir novel. I felt the movie was a good representation of the book, and the people around me were laughing and cheering at all the right spots. And did I mention there were actually lots of people in the theatre.

I have mentioned before my theory that this movie represents the first in a slew of films that will bring people back into the theatres like the pre-covid days.

It was great to see so many fellow movie goers and to hear the communal cheers, laughs and gasps. It was a good movie for it.

Ryan Gosling did a great job as the main character, and the film was shot really well too.

They skimped on some of the cool science stuff the characters do and some of the scenes were simplified when compared to the novel versions, but this is to be expected. Overall, I think anyone would enjoy this movie.

After the film, we parted ways with our friends and headed home. I was ready to have a restful rest of the evening. Robyn went for a walk while I consumed some YouTube videos.

When she returned, we watched the Daily Show and then we settled down to read. I was determined to finish my current book and twenty minutes later I managed to do just that.

As usual, I was sad to finish a book that I was enjoying and excited to start something new.

But I realized I hadn’t written this blog post and decided to get it done instead of starting a new novel.

Tomorrow, I need to get plenty of writing done as well as a few things around the house like placing a few tiles in the kitchen, some garden prep and getting the stove up and running.

So, I’ll end this blog here at just after midnight and get a good night’s rest to be ready for what tomorrow brings.

Until then…
