#197 - Earworms and Handmaids
Share
I slept in until nine and enjoyed every single second of it.
We had some feedback from our client that may entail a fair bit of revisions and that is all part of the process, even if it is a little disheartening.
I poured some vanilla earl grey into my smart mug and decided that I love my mug so much that I would buy my wife one as well. We both love our daily tea, but I made sure hers would hold more liquid than mine.
I also bought a new power bar for the cave, one with a longer cord and surge protection. It also had two usb a and two usb c ports as well and those are always useful.
The morning started with working on revisions and then an eleven AM meeting to welcome some new team members.
Then it was back to business as usual.
Robyn had an online meeting and so I took the opportunity to watch some videos and rest in bed. It’s really warm outside today, and I hope to get a bit of a walk in tonight after work is done for the day.
I am feeling pretty good considering I only got five and a half hours of sleep, but I suspect I will crash and burn later in the afternoon or early in the evening. I did get my assignment completed last night and that is something to be happy about.
I plan to indulge in some television watching tonight and maybe a little reading, and of course this blog. I have to keep my word count up. I am still behind by approximately 4200 words or roughly two days worth. Plenty of time to catch up.
After work, Robyn and I took a walk. The weather was too nice not to go outside and enjoy it. We stopped and got a few snacks to watch a bit of tv together and a few other odds and ends at the Shopper’ s Drug Mart.
After all the craziness of last week, we deserve a night of mindless entertainment. We’ll both be up early to catch the train into the city. Robyn packed us some leftovers for lunch and made up some healthy snacks for us to take in as well.
I’ll have a train buddy tomorrow and I Iove it.
We’ll watch the premiere of “New Testaments,” which is the second book of the “Handmaid’s Tale.” It’s about all the energy the two of us have left right now.
My brother-in-law worked on this show as well as the “Handmaid’s Tale,” and they did most of the filming around the Greater Toronto Area. We are constantly asking him, “Where the hell did you film that?” And we are always surprised to see parts so close to us that we never knew existed.
Anyway, we enjoyed the show based on the first book and I hope to enjoy the new show.
We did notice one of the massive estates that is just ten or fifteen minutes from our house called Chelster Hall. I remember seeing it for sale years ago for the bargain basement price of sixty million dollars.
I’ll try to sneak in a bit of reading before bed. I keep missing out on that. I’ll give Writers of the Future a try again. And after that, I need to read Kindle only books for the ease of transportation.
I am going to bed by eleven PM tonight. No staying up late for this guy. There has been too much of that lately.
I am hoping to listen to a lecture my teachers are putting on about the history of science fiction while I am at work tomorrow. It will depend on what kind of day it ends up being. Some days I am tapped on the shoulder, either physically or digitally every five minutes. Other days I don’t speak to a single person all day long.
Their presentation will contain a lot of behind-the-scenes stories from their own experiences. And since they used to attend the conventions and were friends with most of the well-known writers, it stands to reason that they will have a few good tales to spin.
I’ve heard a few of the stories when I was talking their classes and if that is anything to go by, the rest of the stories should be great.
The other night, the kiddo asked if I wanted to be a part of his summer film assignment. He started firing off all these position titles and I had no idea what any of them did. I was so tired, the idea of doing anything seemed preposterous. I agreed in the end to help, but that I didn’t want to commit to a certain role at this time.
Summer is too far off to make these kinds of decisions.
I saw the US Navy was deployed to the strait of Hormuz to create their own blockade against the Iranian government. I’m pretty sure someone said this war was won weeks ago. Shocking.
I just helped Robyn set up her digital Presto card to pay for her transit on the train the TTC buses, subway and streetcars. I remember a time, not that long ago when you had to wait in line to buy a monthly pass and the teller handed you a tiny bit of card stock the size of a raffle ticket.
These days you can pay your fare using multiple payment methods or just tap your phone up to a reader. How cool is that? One less card to carry around in your wallet or purse. And no more waiting in line to top your balance. It’s all done by phone or even automatically. I used to hate Presto when it first came out because they made it near impossible to prove you paid the fares for tax purposes. The cards were a bit more unreliable back then as well. Now they can be used on multiple transportation systems and give you discounts when you travel on more than one.
Amazing!
I made the mistake of listening to “Joseph and the Technicolor Dreamcoat,” before seeing “The Book of Mormon,” to get me in the mood. Now the damns songs are living rent free in my head and repeating like they are Christmas songs at the mall. Damn you Andrew Loyd Webber!
Okay, really, really tired.
Bed. Now.
Nite!
