#198 - Pizza and The Quiet Zone
Share
Up at just before seven to get ready for work and at the commute to the city.
I had Robyn with me today for her first day in the studio. The train was too packed for us to sit together, so I just sat with my eyes closed and got a bit of rest.
The ride was pleasant except for the volume level of the announcements that repeated over and over again. One of the messages has the cheek to remind you that the area you have chosen is a Quiet Zone. If only they would take their own advice.
We had packed lunches, leftovers from last night, and some healthy snacks of carrots, peppers. There were cheese and crackers, too. Yum.
We skipped the diner to save money and because we were brown bagging it. Little did we know that the studio was supplying lunch for us, while we listended to the company townhall broadcast through a large sceen tv in the kitchen.
We were served various offerings from Pizzialo, and the boxes were stacked high on the kitchen island.
The presentation felt a bit weird to those of us who watched it. Kind of like if SNL did a Ted talk and there were infomercials embedded in it. But we had pizza to eat, and that was enough. I even took a little nap at one point.
Pizza and a nap. Divine.
The amount of work I had to do today was reduced from the norm, and I offered to help the other lead and did some approvals.
I was notified that Robyn’s new smart mug was delivered, and I am excited for the beverage nirvana she will soon encounter.
I listened to the first installment of the history of science fiction while I was working and enjoyed hearing about the early days of conventions and the well-known writers.
Later in the afternoon, Robyn and I went for a short walk to the local Tim Hortons so she could get a tea. We both needed some fresh air and a bit of a walk. The sun was out and the temperature must have been over twenty degrees Celsius. May as well have been a summer day.
The kiddo notified us he wanted it to be Taco Tuesday this evening, so we sent him on a quest to purchase ground beef. He must have really wanted it because he walked to the grocery store and purchased some of his own free will.
We left the studio, and the sun greeted us again. Robyn tweaked her knee somehow, and the decision was to walk to the station to see if some movement would help work it out. As a result, we just missed the train but managed to jump on an all-stops immediately right after.
I’ll use the extra time to write a portion of this blog; after all, the only reason I rush home every day is to be with the person who is already sitting beside me. So, the train can take as long as it likes.
The sun is shining, the train's A/C is working, and all is right in my world.
I’ve been inspecting my tulips almost daily, and in the last two days they have really increased their rate of growth. We are definitely getting more sunlight every day, and the plants seem to respond to this. In the backyard, my aromatic French Perfume Hyacinths are already scenting the air and are in full bloom.
I hope my rose bushes survived the winter. They always look dead in the spring and then bounce back.
I saw on LinkedIn that Disney might fire another thousand employees. Not a good sign for a company that produces entertainment. I wonder if part of their plan is to farm it out to third-party studios to save the overhead costs and to mitigate some liabilities.
We received more information about what our client wanted to change with the backgrounds today, and although it will be a great deal of work, it wasn’t as severe as we first thought. Still a pain to redo work.
But if it were easy, everyone would do it.
I have to make a note to buy some shorts this weekend. I never think to get them in the spring. I try to buy them like a normal person when I need them. But all you’ll find in the store during the summer is snowsuits and winter boots.
I’m looking forward to watching a few episodes of tv tonight. I need another day of ease and a good night’s rest again. Maybe finishing the evening off by reading.
Tomorrow, the company is hosting a meeting about its Shorts Program. They make little films in-house, and I signed up to see what its all about. I was thinking there might be an opportunity to write something.
I suspect the whole affair won’t be something for me, but it was worth the time to find out. You never know what will come of these things. I think it's best to be open to any opportunities that might lead to an interesting future.
We did eventually have tacos for dinner, and they hit the spot. Sometimes you get the right combination of sauce, cheese, sour cream, refried beans, meat, lettuce, crunch and soft taco shells and a dollop of guacamole that tastes perfect. And that night was tonight.
We got caught up on a couple of episodes of “Testament” and an episode of “Your Friends and Neighbors.” It was nice just to relax tonight and get some well-needed R & R.
We are supposed to get some storms tonight that will continue into tomorrow. I will call an audible on whether I head into the studio tomorrow. If it's too rainy, I may just work from home. I think people would understand that.
My AG1 and reading streaks are still destroyed, which is not surprising as they are easiest to drop by the wayside.
The kiddo surprised us tonight by offering to make us all cookies. I had a cup of tea going in my heated smart mug, so it was a no-brainer for me. It’s great when the kids start to develop empathy.
I think I’ll call it a night at this point.
I am still tired from all the events of last week, and another good night’s sleep should put me right as rain.
Good night.
