#202 - Shakers and Chains

Sleeping in until nine was amazing. Not having to get up right after waking up was even better.

I made us a cup of tea and fetched the new salt and pepper grinders the delivery guy left at the door. I wasn’t expecting them to arrive so quickly. I unboxed them and put in some salt and pepper, gave them a quick test and, satisfied with their quality, took the teas back upstairs.

We watched a Bill Maher episode followed by a Detective Hole. Robyn has a charm on chain that her late mother bought for her and unfortunately, the chain broke.

I suggested we head out the same jeweller who fixed the charm last time on Kerr Stree, but when we arrived the windows were papered.

A quick google search led us to a nearby jeweller on Lakeshore Road in the heart of downtown Oakville. There are all kinds of restaurants and bakeries and even a witch supply store, which we had to check out.

Eventually we arrived at the jewellers, and they said they could fix the chain even though it was so thin. And it would only cost around twenty-five dollars. Deal!

We walked around a bit more, I got some Cheese and Onion Walker’s Crisps from the British Shop and Robyn found a scone at a pastry place. Some snacks for later.

It was threatening to rain all day and of course it chose to start just as we left the jewellers, fixed chain in hand.

A quick stop at the grocery store on the way home to pick up some Whip Cream Stabilzer. I needed to make a Tres Leche Cake today and this stuff keeps your whip cream from deflating.

When we finally returned home, we noticed the little ball the jeweller had added to keep the chain from slipping now made putting the charm back on impossible. We’ll have to head back again and see if they can take it off. What we should have done is bring the charm along with us.

I dove into baking the cake part of the Tres lech while Robyn took a well-deserved nap. After I put the cake in the oven, I got all my tax info together and inputted the numbers into a spreadsheet before sending them to my mother-in-law.

Then it was back downstairs to whip up the whipped cream to apply to the cake and then sprinkle on some cinnamon. Birthday request completed.

I should have gone and taken a nap myself, but did I? No, I did not.

Instead, I marinated some chicken thighs, getting ready for a Sunday night dinner of Dishoom’s Ruby Chicken. Very much looking forward to that.

Robyn left to pick up the kiddo and go for a walk, so I got caught up on my YouTube subscriptions and then broke out the Bubble Spa to see if it could loosen up my back. It definitely helped, but the sharp pains are still happening when I turn or move a certain way.

We’ll be in bed by a decent time tonight, as we have breakfast plans with some friends. After that I need to so some writing as I am way behind on my word quota at this point.

We watched a few more episodes of Detective Hole to wind down the night and the show is growing on me. It gets better as it goes on.

I still haven’t had a chance to get stuck into the newest season of “For All Mankind,” but it can wait untit my schedule opens up sometime in 2027.

I jest. Sort of.

I am going to end things here tongight and get some reading done and then another good night’s rest.

Until tomorrow.
