#208 - A Quick One To Keep The Streak Going

Sleeping in until nine AM is my happy place.

Another morning waking up on the floor in service to my aching back. The pain is lessening and I wake up feeling great. I spent the first half of my day with my desk in the standing position, and then after lunch lowering it back to a sitting height.

I’ve read some research that says standing in the same spot all day is just about as bad as sitting all day. The key is to keep your body moving into different positions as much as possible mimicking real life, at least real life before the advent of desk jobs.

Today was much the same as yesterday, getting the team back on track, getting some new info and cleaning up the libraries we use to make the paintings. There were a few meetings and then I did some more revisions to make the painted files look more on style and to conform them to the new set of rules.

We didn’t manage to get our lunchtime walk in today as we were both too busy. I had a 12:40 meeting that meant there wasn’t enough time to go for a walk. Instead, we went around the block and picked up our mail. Not the walk we wante, but it was the walk we took.

The day just dragged on from that point on. I was being very careful about my back, and I had little enthusiasm for the work I was doing. But being a professional means, you keep going even when your artistic side has abandoned you. That’s where the training and skills come in. They keep you going when the desire has left the room.

We wolfed down some lasagna Robyn had baked from frozen for dinner. The decision that we both needed a good long walk was reached and we headed out to the Sobey’s on foot.

I wanted to get some snacks for watching tv tonight as well as some ingredients to make some of the other dishes in the Dishoom cookbook. I picked up some crab meat, jumbo shrimp and two tuna steaks. And for a snack I found an almond tart that looked really good, while Robyn got an apple Danish.

I was getting gassed about three quarters of the way home. Just more proof that I need to get more exercise. And the last bit was a drag. I just wanted to get home and relax for a couple of hours before going to bed. It was sometime after 8PM when we finally walked through our front door.

We watched and episode of “Testaments,” interrupted by my sister trying to plan mothers’ day. Her husband worked on “Testaments,” and I thought it was funny that she was preventing me from watching it at the time. Actually, I was a little annoyed, mostly because I wanted to just watch a show, but my phone kept going off for all kinds of reasons. And I was grumpy from the walk.

I made us some tea and we continued to watch the show uninterrupted.

After that we watched the Daily Show and had a few laughs.

Robyn heard some good new today from the school she had applied to. The wrote her today saying she had been accepted into the course for the upcoming semester. Good news all around and I am very proud of my wife. Many people the same age as us might find going back to school too daunting a prospect. But not my wife, she’s all in for remaking the chapter of her life.

Going to keep this post short again.

Tomorrow, we meet some friends for breakfast and the Robyn heads to the movies with another friend. I’ll be getting into my assignment for my mentor for most of the day and well into the night and beyond.

I’m sleeping on the floor again tonight. It really has been helping me get my back healthy again and I feel like another night might bring the healing all the way home.

So, good night my friends.

Until tomorrow.
