#216 - Errand Boy and Sleeping
Share
Oh, the sweet joy of sleeping in!
I woke up around ten thirty and it felt amazing. Robyn was reading in bed already, trying to be quiet so I could keep sleeping.
She left to make us some breakfast in bed. Tea, peanut butter on English muffins, egg bites, and a bowl of fresh strawberries. It was like eating manna from the gods.
My goal for the day was to do absolutely nothing at all. But my wife is not one to sit around for very long. She had us up running errands because she knew we wouldn’t have the time on Sunday with our family arriving for an early Mother’s Day celebration.
There were groceries to buy for the week and for the party. I needed some lawn soil and grass seed to amend the grass. Of course, we couldn’t resist buying a few plants as well. They had a well-developed cherry tomato plant for a good price and a few other perennials to add to the garden. I picked up a bag of gladiola bulbs to for no reason other than I liked how they looked.
Then I grabbed some BEHR deck oil to re-coat the back deck and a wooden dowel so I can drill out the screw holes for the gate latch and then reattach the latch. The screws couldn’t get a good purchase on the wood anymore.
I spread some seed and soil on the grass while Robyn put away the groceries. And then I switched to putting up the four fabric canopy panels the cover our deck with much-needed shade. The view from the kitchen sliding doors always looks better after the canopy has been installed. They make the deck look like an extra room in the house and make it feel more inviting.
Robyn cleaned and tidied the house while I was up on the ladder attaching the panels.
The squirrels and raccoons are back causing mischief, so I ordered some ultrasonic deterrents that have motion detection activation. It comes with two devices. I’ll put one in the front yard facing the part of the house where I think they are climbing up and I’ll place one in the backyard where I think they climb the fence from the neighbour’s yard into ours.
There were some YouTube reviews of the devices, and the people seemed to think they worked rather well. Some showed videos of cats bolting away when the unit was activated. The question is will it have the same effect on the racoons.
They are cute, but they must go.
By the time we finished all the things that needed to be done we were feeling tired. A quick nap was in order, and boy did that feel sorely needed. It turned into two hours of sleep, so we must have needed it. I know after last week, heck last month, I was ready for some rest and relaxation.
Robyn left to pick up the kiddo from his work, and I watched some videos on YouTube.
When she returned, I put on an episode of Daredevil, and she tuned out as she isn’t into this season as much as the first one.
I forgot to get some Euros for my mom’s gift, since she is leaving for Spain next week, so I rushed to the bank just before they closed and was able to get her some.
Phew!
When I returned, it dawned on me that I had forgotten to order the Indian food for the party tomorrow, so I jumped on that and got it done.
For a guy whose life goal for today was to do nothing, I think actually accomplished quite a bit.
But I’ll keep this blog post short and end the day reading for a few hours before getting another great night’s sleep.
Thanks for reading, and see you tomorrow.
