#217 - Mother's Day Supreme
Share
I was able to sleep in again and woke feeling like a human being.
We have company coming over for an early Mother’s Day and so we took the opportunity to have a relaxing morning. We watched some television and did some reading. Then went outside to do a little gardening before everyone arrived.
The food was already ordered; the house had been cleaned, and all we were waiting on was our guests.
The lawn needed some soil and seed here and there and I gave it a bit of a watering as well. I had some gladiola bulbs that I planted around the front yard tree and in a few spots in the back garden in groups of five and six.
Hopefully they will add some summer colour in spots, but I am treating them more as an experiment. It was nice to get some gardening in before everyone arrived. In fact, I was still watering the front when my sister and her family rolled up. My parents arrived shortly after and we got to hanging out.
I ordered from an Indian restaurant yesterday and the food was expected to be delivered in half and hour’s time.
My brother-in-law brought some brownies and ice cream for dessert. He makes the brownies with a standard mix but uses evaporated milk instead of regular milk. The result is chewy and gooey brownies with a nice crisp exterior.
The food arrived a little later, after we had all chatted for a while. As usual, I over ordered and there was way too much food for us all to eat.
My nephew’s girlfriend finds even pepper to be too spicy. Pepperoni is too much for her. So, I made her chicken strips and POGO’s as a special order. No pepper was harmed in the making of this individual order.
Afterwards, we settled back into the living room to let our food settle before dessert. My mother was trying to prove my father’s hearing was bad by playing an irritating high-pitched sound. He didn’t seem to notice when she played it, but he might also have been stoically ignoring her to make a point of his own.
This is my parent’s love language.
We had some nice chats, some funny chats and the inevitable chats that turned uncomfortable. The usual family stuff.
It was great to see everyone and catch up on each other’s lives.
But soon it was time for everyone to leave, and we were ready for a bit of rest. We are the kind of people that lose energy when we are around people. Robyn did some reading and I put on “Marty Supreme,” mostly because there wasn’t much else on to watch.
Overall, I enjoyed the movie. It was a weird movie and had lots of twists and turns. It went all over the place, and the music didn’t fit the time the movie took place in.
But since relaxation was what was needed, it fit the bill nicely.
And I’ll end this post here. My fingers are still sore from the past week’s typing efforts.
Night all.
