#234 - DayQuil and Bear Hugs

We were both up early to catch the train into work this morning. Robyn had prepacked some leftovers for our lunches.

The drive to the station was unusually bare of traffic. And we got to the station a few minutes before a train arrived. We didn’t get seats together as we were separated as we boarded the train. I sat upstairs and Robyn found a seat below.

The seat I had, plus the people standing in the aisles, made it impossible for me to do any writing. And on top of that, I was feeling the effects of the sinus pressure and congestion. So, I thankfully closed my eyes and rested a bit more.

At the station, the lineup to descend the stairs was crazy busy. The longest line I have seen since I have been commuting. But as we weren’t exactly in a rush to get to work, we waited our turn patiently.

We stopped by Tim Hortons, and this time didn’t have to wait forever to get our order of steeped teas and strawberry muffins. Somehow, we always arrive at this particular Tims at the worst possible time.

Guess it was our lucky day.

I arrived at work, and the departing president of the company came over to give me a giant bear hug. I had left a copy of my teacher’s book, “Writing into the Dark,” as a gift for her, as she had expressed an interest in writing. I think the thoughtfulness of the gift and the belief that I thought she could write whatever she wanted really touched her.

Later, I sent her a link to a course I thought she might get the most out of called “Depth in Writing.” It sure made a big difference to me.

I also had a recipe that I had printed up and laminated for my production manager who had shown some interest when I mentioned it. Got an air hug for that one.

Hugs all around today.

I got stuck into work as fast as I could because I knew how much I had to left to do. But I didn’t get too far before we needed to do more approvals. And then there was a batch of revisions from our Art Director, so I jumped on those. The idea was to get as much finished and approved work to the next department as possible.

Robyn and took lunch together in the staff cafeteria and sat by ourselves. Not on purpose; it just worked out that way. We both enjoyed our leftovers of sausages and roasted vegetables. It always tastes great, and I feel better eating more fibre and veggies.

As Robyn was planning to leave a bit early to attend a wrap party, she shortened her lunch and went back to work. I was starting to feel groggy and under the weather, so I made a short trip to the grocery store that also had a small pharmacy. I bought some Dayquil that promised to help deal with my sinus issues and any headaches. Never having used this particular brand, I was skeptical about its effectiveness. There wasn’t any of the Neo Citron I had come in the store to buy, so I left with the Dayquil.

Back at the office, I was feeling a little better just for having taken the walk. I added some boiled water to the packet of Dayquil and gave it a chance. It kind of tasted like drinking a Halls. Not unpleasant, but not as good as a lemon Neo Citron.

But after a half an hour I felt a little better, enough to be able to focus on my work.

I finished all the revisions I was able to do without further input from my supervisor or other departments and went back to doing a large revision on a painting. I came close to finishing it. I might need another two hours tomorrow to get it done.

Robyn left to go to her party, and I stayed until about five-thirty. My plan was to go to the station and find a spot to work on my laptop. But just as I left the studio, I got a text from her saying she’d had enough socializing and was ready to go home. I jumped on a streetcar, and we made plans to meet in front of Union Station.

I say my wife walking down Front Street carrying her swag from the party. I was a tote bag, and a printed poster of the show. I think she was hoping to get a red hoodie that they gave out years ago when I had worked on the same show.

But it wasn’t meant to be.

We headed down into the station, and a train was just boarding. We got seats together on the main floor, but the all-stops train was packed to the gills. Most of the people got of at the next stop, Exhibition, so there must have been some event going on there tonight.

The rest of the ride was uneventful. I spent half the ride napping while Robyn read and then later, I opened my book on my phone and continued reading about tales about CSIS.

Robyn went for a walk as soon as we got home, well after watering the flowers that is. I had a new spray wand to use for the front from Amazon to hookup and test as well as installing three out of four new flower basket hangers.

And with all the gardening we have been doing I also received a new brush for cleaning your nails. I watched some YouTube videos and ate half a sandwich for dinner. Often when Robyn goes on a walk and the kiddo joins her, they stop and eat somewhere along the way. S I figured it would be an “every man for himself” kind of night.

I was hoping my new pen would have arrived from Japan today, but it looks like it won’t be until sometime tomorrow or Friday. It’s a Zento Signature gel pen that sold out last time they made them. They turned out to be way more popular than they were expecting. The prices quickly rose on sites like Amazon and eBay to almost $200. And don’t get me wrong, it a nice pen, but it’s not a $200 pen.

Recently, they produced a second run of the pens, and the prices have returned to more reasonable prices. It’s still double the MRSP because you they aren’t available in North America and you need to buy them from a Japanese retailer. Which is how I ordered mine, from a reputable seller on eBay.

Once Robyn returned from her walk and made herself some dinner, apparently, they didn’t stop this time to eat, we head upstairs to watch some tv and relax for a bit.

I made myself a Neo Citron to go and then put on “The Boys.” It was the season finale and I’m not sure it was the ending it deserved, but it was the ending we got. And overall, we both enjoyed the show.

After that it was on to “The Testaments” which put out another good episode tonight. The stakes have risen and things are getting a little hairy. It didn’t feel like the season finale, but I’m not sure how many episodes are in this season. Google tells me there is one more left to air.

I can’t say I felt relaxed after watching the shows, probably because I knew how much writing I still had to do tonight and not getting anything done during the day meant it would be a longer session tonight.

But I dragged my ass back out of bed and flopped into the recliner in Kiddo #1’s room and got to work. I have managed to get behind again. I’ll need to write three thousand words a day until the end of month to catch up. I have a story assignment due on Sunday and that is likely to get my numbers up a fair bit.

Tomorrow is the season finale for Survivor, so we will be attending that at our friend’s house once again tomorrow evening. And of course, there will be pizza and hot tubbing.

Quite a few season finales happening this month.

It’s been a long day once again and I am up early again tomorrow. Thursdays are very long days for me.

I’ll end this here and pay the price tomorrow, a little short on my word count for the day.

Until tomorrow.
