#239 - Vertical Plant Bags and Kiwis
Share
Considering I went to bed this morning at six forty-five and got up at nine thirty, felt pretty good.
I thought I was going to have to call in sick to get some proper sleep, but I was feeling fine. Good even. Some of that might be the stress relief from completing another mentor assignment as well as feeling less pressure at work this week. Things are running much more smoothly than the weeks before.
I went straight to my home studio desk and logged in. I had an elven o’clock meeting so I got to finishing the last two paintings that were hanging over my head. It felt great to get those off my plate.
The meeting helped to solidify that things were getting better. Afterwards, I was feeling even better about things.
Lunch arrived, and the weather looked amazing. Sunny skies and only slightly warm. There wasn’t enough time to go for our cherished walk in the woods since we both had one o’clock meetings, so we did a shorter route around our neighborhood. After all the rain we experienced this weekend, it made us not want to go back home.
But go home we did.
The meeting was short and really just a catch up with some notes and questions about the latest episode we are moving onto this week as we wrap up the current one.
With that meeting finished I was free to do revisions and approvals for the rest of the day, further our goal of wrapping this episode up.
At three thirty I blacked out for a second. The old head dropped and I was startled awake. This never happens to me. But it felt kind of cool and it gave me a bit of a chuckle. I headed to the bedroom to take a twenty-minute nap and then finished the day doing approvals.
At five I headed back to bed and took a one hour nap and according to Robyn who was still working downstairs on her computer, I was sawing logs. There’s no proof of this, so it’s all just conjecture on her part!
I plead the fifth.
After I “got out of bed” I headed to the back deck and filled three hanging bags with soil and begonias. I still have three more bags to use, but I don’t have anymore flowers to add. Each bag takes about eight to ten flowers. They look a bit sparse for the moment, but in a couple of weeks they should fill out nicely. I hung them on the deck posts
Considering I got the flowers for free and the soil was from last year, it was a cheap endeavour. And the bags can be used over multiple summers.
Just as I finished planting my alarm went off to tell me the thirty hour cook of our roast was complete. Robyn left to do her support worker job, so I made some roasted Brussel sprouts and some sauteed vegetables. I thought it would be nice for her to have a meal ready and waiting when she returned home.
She arrived back just as everything was ready and the three of us sat down for a family meal. Even the kiddo enjoyed the meat and brussel sprouts. We learned that kiddo #2 will be returning home to us in about two weeks and that she had secured a summer job as and art camp counsellor.
We are glad to have her back for awhile. Later she plans to return to Halifax to continue her studies. And this means she might be able to come to the cottage with us this year, which we do annually.
After diner, Robyn and the kiddo went for a walk and then headed to Walmart for some groceries. I needed a few items to make another batch of Chicken Ruby. Just some of the finishing items as the sauce and the chicken are ready to go. I just needed cream to add to the sauce and pomegranate seeds to sprinkle on as garnish. The seeds as a nice tartness to this dish and I wouldn’t skip them if I can help it.
I watched some YouTube videos while they were away and did some reading. I went down a rabbit hole of celebrities trying snacks from their own country against another country’s.
I watched too many of these ten-to-fifteen-minute sections.
At ten, I ate my two kiwis, my 400 mg of magnesium and 230 ml of tart cherry juice to see if it helps me fall asleep. But after the long day I had yesterday, I am not sure I’ll need any help. These items are supposed to help you sleep faster, longer and increase the quality of the rest. My first try at it was positive, and that was with out the kiwi fruit.
I hope I wake up feeling as spry as I did two mornings ago. I wonder if the good night’s sleep I had the previous night was partly responsible for my ability to keep working until seven in the morning today.
The proof will be how I feel tomorrow morning!
I can already feel the effects of the compounds getting me ready for sleep. Or it could just be sheer exhaustion setting in.
I think I’ll treat myself with a grilled vegetable breakfast sandwich on the way to work tomorrow. It’ll give me something to look forward to.
I’ve got my sleep mask sitting on the bedside table and I am ready to a call it a night. I want to keep writing, but I haven’t got the energy to keep going anymore tonight. This puts me in the unfortunate position of having to write a great deal more tomorrow to catch up on today’s deficit, but I feel like I will have more time and energy to put towards it then.
Peace out.
