#243 - Tuner and Poutine
Share
I got to sleep in this morning, and I was glad I could. I didn’t feel as rested as I thought I would after taking the sleep aids. I think our bedroom might have been a little too warm for me and that’s why I didn’t sleep as well.
The kiddo texted Robyn’s phone at one thirty in the morning and that didn’t help either.
But the sun as shining and Friday had arrived! I got out of bed feeling well, no pains and no groaning. I started straight to work and got some paintings corrected before we had a quick call with the other lead and our supervisor. After she got us caught up on all the work gossip, I dove straight back into doing approvals across three different episodes.
I needed to do some art director corrections as well and then it was lunch.
We headed to the provincial park to take our walk, and boy was it an amazing day out there. The temperature was perfect and the sun was shining. A cool breeze made sure we stayed comfortable and the trees offered us up some shade.
There’s a lot more dogs out and about today. A pair ran towards us to say hello was we exited the car. I have noticed all the dogs we see at the park are always incredibly happy. They clearly enjoy being around other dogs and running around unencumbered.
And I guess we both enjoy the walk as much as the dogs do.
It should come as not surprise that neither of us wanted to return to working after being out in such a lovely day. I had a meeting to get ready for at two thirty and needed to get some work done before then. Reluctantly we headed back home.
The meeting included multiple department heads and leads. This meeting allows us to communicate our needs and concerns on a weekly basis. Today my department was concerned about the light direction on the paintings. We asked for more direction from the design team, as they would typically do this on any other show. It’s not something we would normally have to ask for, but it was becoming an issue that caused us to repaint backgrounds multiple times. And that, we don’t have time for.
But the meeting went well and we left satisfied that things would get better in time.
I spent the rest of the workday doing more of the same approvals and revisions until a little after five. Our friends, Paul and Laura dropped by for a quick visit just as I finished up and we sat out on the back deck and had a chat. The wind really picked up, became too gusty and made sitting outside less enjoyable, so we moved inside.
They didn’t stay much longer as they had dinner reservations and Robyn needed to get to her support worker job. She’ll pick uo the kiddo after she’s done and then we have plans to got see a movie called ‘Tuner.’ I’m not sure what it’s about, but as long as it’s not a horror movie I am fine with it.
And I love the movie theater’s chicken strips. Yes, I am mostly going to the theatre to eat movie house chicken strips. Sue me.
I plan on bringing my laptop to the theatre so I can get some writing done while I am waiting for the movie to start. Well, at least until the trailers start. I am hoping for some good trailers.
While Robyn is away, I am catching up on my YouTube videos and doing a little light writing while I wait for the two of them to come home. I also managed to get the lawn mowed as well. Feeling pretty accomplished.
We departed for the theater at a nine o’clock for a nine fifty showing. A bit too early for my liking, but we did stop at the concessions stand to get some dinner. I got buffalo chicken poutine and they got chicken tenders. I originally wanted chicken tenders and fries, so I got the poutine instead because it had both plus some buffalo wing sauce.
I have no regrets.
The only good preshow ads were for The Death of Robin Hood and Toy Story 5. I’d go see either of those. It sounds like we are going to see the Mandalorian and Grogu movie either tomorrow or Sunday with our friends Paul and Laura. Not so interested in seeing that movie based solely on the content Disney has been shitting out lately. But it’s a second chance to get chicken tenders.
Tonight’s movie was called Tuners and it starred Dustin Hoffman and Leo Woodwall, who is (spoilers) a guy with amazing hearing who tunes pianos and then learns to crack a safe.
And then gets himself into trouble as he falls in love with a pianist.
The last time we watched something with Leo Woodwall as the star he played a guy with amazing math skills that invented mathematics that could crack any code. He created or rediscovered pure math. He seems to play guys who are amazing at (insert special talent here), a fare bit.
But, having said that, the movie was entertaining. And with my writer’s hat on, I was wondering how they would make this an interesting story. It was a little predictable for me, but it did hit all the right buttons. I think they did a good job.
Robyn and the kiddo really seemed to enjoy it as well.
I am definitely going to sleep in tomorrow, but I need to get a lot of writing done and I want to get a start on my new assignment. Waiting to the last moment is not going to be good enough anymore. I am halfway through my mentorship, and the stakes are getting higher. As my skill improves, I have to keep pushing myself. And waiting to the last minute is not going to get me to where I need to be.
And writing now, with over seven days to get the assignment done I could potentially write something a little longer. And that would be good for my practice as well as for the word count quota.
This is my second day using the privacy screen on my laptop. I forget that it is even there most of the time, which kind of cancels out the purpose of it. I mean people can’t see anything from the sides, but I keep forgetting that they can’t. Funny how my brain works sometimes.
Well, all the time really.
In my garden I planted some irises about four years ago. They are called So Van Gogh Siberian Irises. They bloom in a blue purple with yellow green, perfect Van Gogh colours and are the only bi-colour irises. It took about three years for me to finally get them to bloom. This year the stems are very tall, and I have plenty of blooms. This is the patience that possess and other talk about. It’s a great little reward for me to see them every year. They don’yt bloom for long but it’s like seeing an old friend one a year. Thankfully we have plenty of yellow and red begonias to give us constant blooms from spring through fall.
This year I planted some gladiolas just to see how they would fare in our garden. I planted some in the front which gets the most light and a set in the sunny part of the back yard and some in pot in mostly shade. All three spots are growing well. The ones in the pot seem to be growing the best. Maybe the pot has better soil for growing than the ground.
The vertical bag planters I put together with begonias aren’t looking amazing, but begonias are really hard to kill. I am hoping in a few weeks that they will look as nice as the ones from the nursery.
Our guests today complimented our garden. It’s always nice when someone comes over and appreciates all the work we put into the gardens and the planters.
The YouTuber I watch who is sailing around the world on a solar boat he built had some kids throwing rocks at his boat. One of the panels was hit and cracked and he showed us the damage in a short video. I had to laugh as he ended it by referring to the kids as “little pieces of shi-----.”
The artful edit, cutting of that “t” as the end had me in stitches, but it has given him a new video idea. He is going to try and see if he can fix the panel himself and test whether it has lost any of its capacity to make electricity. And that is the kind of attitude that will see you through life. He’ll probably make more money off this new ‘fix it’ video than it would cost to replace the broken panel.
So far, he has had his homemade dingy and oars stolen as well as his solar panels wrecked while off the coast of Spain. Sounds like people are a little shitty down there. Must be a lot of vandals, thieves and hooligans in the part of Spain he is docked. I believe it has low crime rate for serious things like homicide, but a higher rate for theft of possessions.
I am looking forward to his next full-length video as he is sure to be entertaining as he talks about the kids who damaged his floating home.
One of the content makers I have watched for years lives up in Algonquin building his log cabin, gardens and various outbuildings. Recently he has been trying out various AI tools, and I first noticed it in his thumbnail pictures. I was instantly turned off by the images and stopped checking in on his channel. I found it interesting that I had this visceral reaction to the AI altered images.
He later put out a video explaining that they were testing things out to see if it would free up more time for him to work on the projects and not spend so much time editing and making images. But there must have been a little pushback from his subscribers. I know I felt it. I am sure someone out there made their feelings known in the comment section.
I don’t think most people enjoy the so-called enhancements that AI offers when they come face to face with it. No one wants to see the thing the love shat out by AI.
I’m glad he came out and said he wasn’t going to be using it in the future.
For tonight, since I had a late supper around ten PM at the theatre, I am skipping most of the sleep aids because I think they will be less effectual. My late meal and the sweets I had during the movie are going to interfere with the effects of the sleep aids. So, tonight I only took the Magnesium Glycinate. No point wasting the cherry juice and the kiwis.
And since I don’t really have to get and go anywhere tomorrow, there is no pressing need to sleep efficiently tonight.
Here’s hoping I don’t wake up feeling like a bag of dirt tomorrow morning.
Sounds like Trumpy is getting into trouble with the courts again. Not that he is sitting in the White House worried about getting caught. The court wants to reopen his lawsuiTt that he dismissed and then made a settlement on afterwards. Apparently, the judge on the case wasn’t pleased that the settlement came after the judgement and that Trump was essential on both side of the case. There is a serious charge for defrauding the courts that could become quite serious for him if the case gets reopened.
I’ve never known an American president to be so litigious as this one, but leave it up to the ex-real-estate guy from the Big Apple to spend his presidency suing people.
On a happier note, there was a full moon tonight that shone very brightly in the sky as we drove to the theatre. The detail of the moon seemed really defined this evening for some reason. Maybe the moon was closer to the earth during this cycle or maybe it was the air that was clean and crisp that allowed more detail to be seen with the naked eye.
Nonetheless, it looked cool.
I’m running out of steam tonight, so I think I call it a day. It’s almost one-forty-five in the morning, time for bed.
Until tomorrow.
