#250 - Repairs and Gardens

We were up earlier than I wanted to be, but later than if we’d headed into work. My car needed some serious repairs, so we headed out to drop it off at the dealership.

The road there, the same one I take to get to the train was still under construction, but today they were blocking traffic more than usual. We had the car into the service center and were back on the road within minutes.

It was shaping up to be the warmest day of the week. The temperature was already up and feeling hot. Ater the expense of fixing Robyn’s car, the service attendant asked me if I hated him. I told him I hated the game, not tha playa.

Back home, I got ready to have a meeting with one of painters and our supervisor. I needed to mark up some of her paintings and get all the notes organized. We had a good meeting, and I hope we removed an anxiety she may have been feeling about the job at hand. I sure felt better, because every time we do these meetings, I get to understand the show a little bit better.

It felt like the day was whizzing by. Lunch arrived in no time, and we headed out to the park to take our hike. But me being the dummy I am, I forgot the parking pass, and we had to head back home to get it. Even though we go there everyday and the girl at the gate recognized us.

So, we returned, waving the pass at the smiling attendant and parked close to the trails. The temperature difference from the exposed trail to the part under the canopy was like walking into a meat locker. It’s one of the main reasons we like to walk there. I enjoyed the walk immensely.

At about halfway through, the dealership called and my car need almost $4000 dollars of repairs. Ouch! But it needed to be done. The intercooler needed replacing and my radiator was also leaking. So, a new one of those too!

The hits just keep coming.

We returned home and rehydrated. Back up to the home studio to do more revisions and approvals.

The fellow I follow on YouTube who sailed from Norway to Spain on his solar boat finally released another video. Am I an impatient subscriber? Yes, yes, I am.

But I was glad to see their update as they travel around the coastline of Spain. It looks like a nice way to live and it’s something I think I could do if my other half was into it as well. And I don’t think we will ever actually do something like that and that is likely why I enjoy watching their videos.

When the clock hit five, I left the house and made my way to the local Rona home improvement store. I was on the hunt for some perennials to add to the back garden. I left with a miniature Douglas fir, two hostas, a hibiscus, a stone crop, some ground cover and a small shrub with little white flowers. And of course, I needed a couple bags of garden soil, because my back garden is all clay. The new additions really helped to fill in the garden, making it look more intentional. I managed to plant everything but the hostas, mostly because I could decide where I wanted them to go.

I feel another plant buying trip might be in order tomorrow morning as well!

None-the-less, it felt great to work in the garden and even the temperature was nice and cool for working. Getting things planted makes me feel good and gives me more plants to check on every morning.

Robyn left to do her support work while I toiled in the garden. She had started the Census that we had yet to complete and texted me asking if I could finish it. I had finished gardening and was not really pleased to be answering government questions at that time. But I did it.

And by the way Stats Can, your questions are stupid.

Kiddo #2 wanted to get some garlic knots from Dominoe’s Pizza, so Robyn drove him over in the rain, mostly because she wanted some garlic knots too. And that’s how we ended up in bed watching ‘Dutton Ranch’ and eating yummy garlic knots.

No regrets!

It would have been nice to watch another show right after ‘Dutton Ranch,’ but Robyn had taken on some overtime work from the studio, and I had some writing to get done. I put on an episode of Criminal Record while I happily typed away.

I am taking the writing easy tonight since I’ll be starting my assignment tomorrow and I want to feel fresh and relaxed. I figure I’ll only be a thousand words behind after tonight and I should be able to make that up writing a short story.

We’ll be having friend over for tea and dessert after 8 pm and then we head out to pick up kiddo #1 at the airport around 1am. But that mean I have a large portion of my day free for working on the mentor assignment story.

I see in the news that Seth Rogen and his friend and collaborator Evan Goldberg are reviving the “Littlest Hobo,” tv series for the Canadian market via Crave. The pair are set to bring back the adventures of a dog that roams around Canada and helps people get themselves out of trouble.

Do we even need this in this day and age? I have no idea. The recent revival of The Muppet Show, on which Rogen was a producer was done well. Can he care that magic over to a fairly obscure Canadian television show from the seventies. I remember watching this show as a kid, so I guess there might be a market for it. Yet, back when I was watching it, there were only so six or seven television channels to watch, so the pickings were slim.

Will they market this towards kids like the original, or are they hoping for a nostalgia hit? As someone who used to watch the show, I don’t think I would be interested in seeing a new updated version of this silly little show from the past.

Sometimes, I wonder if we have run out of new ideas. It would seem so by the people who are making tv shows and movies these days. A constant regurgitation of the old standbys.

After Robyn returned from her work, we watched an episode of Dutton Ranch and then read our books for a while. We stayed up until 1:30 AM reading and that is a great way to end the workweek.

Night all.
