#264 - Rooted Stems and Friends

We worked from home today and I for one was happy to have slept in.

The day started at a fast pace as we tried to get the majority of the show done. It’s an impossible task, but the more we get done today the less gets carried forward into next week.

I spent the morning going through approvals all day and then cleaning up the folders to make the things that were done got to the right spots and the things that needed work got worked on. I needed to revise a section of the show with one of the other painters chipping in as well. There was a lot going on and every approval and every revision felt like a step in the right direction.

I stopped after an hour to make myself some breakfast and to say hello to my garden plants. Everything is still looking good. The cutting I took of my roses has managed to survive the winter and is starting to put out new leaves and branches. I put on some tea and checked in on the lemony lace cutting I took on the 30th of May. It seems to be doing well under the grow lights, so I removed the clear plastic that was tented above it to keep it in a moist atmosphere.

The stem seemed to be more rooted in place which is a good sign that the plant has started sending out roots of its own. I hope to be able to plant the new plant by the end of summer. Sooner if I can.

Two of our tomato plants are growing like crazy. One is a cherry tomato and the other is a regular sized tomato plant. We have a hanging strawberry plant that is producing plenty of small strawberries already. The berries may be small, but they are delicious.

I love picking fruit off the vine in my own backyard.

I made myself a bowl of All Bran with prunes to go with my tea and headed back up stairs. Our two o’clock meeting was cancelled so that we could get as much work done as possible. I wasn’t going to fight that!

By twelve fifteen we hadn’t yet stopped for lunch, so I called down to Robyn that it was time to take a walk and she eagerly agreed.

The weather was cool and there was a good breeze, which made for great walking temperatures. I felt a little stronger today. The high fibre breakfasts are paying off.

Today one of the dog owners or perhaps they were one of the many dog walkers, seemed to have lost their pooch. We could hear them calling for miles. I don’t think that dog wanted to go home. I would have whistled, but they just called out the dog’s name in a lilting voice.

Like an actor might sing song a line in a musical, pitched higher at the end of the phrasing.

An hour later, as we returned to the car, the owner still called to the dog.

I had a canned tuna and couscous combo for lunch, since it was light and pre-made. I washed it down with a Dr. Pepper and then got back to work doing approvals and revisions.

I did that for hours until the workday was over and the weekend started.

We had friends coming over for drinks at seven thirty. I did a few fixes that we needed on the deck. I installed the new cord for the deck lighting and the new clips to hold it all in place. Next, I cut and replaced a new fence board to replace the missing louvre on the deck shades. And with that our deck privacy was restored and the lights would work as the evening went on.

Robyn left with kiddo #1 to pick up some snacks and a few groceries while I did the repairs. I made myself a cortado afterwards and watched some YouTube videos while we waited for our friends to show up.

They arrived on time and in good spirits.

It had been a while since we’d all been together, and it was great just to sit on the deck on a perfect night and catch up. Robyn laid out some cheese and crackers, grapes and some chips for us to snack on.

Those snacks ended up being our dinner as we unintentionally skipped dinner.

We chatted from about seven thirty until twelve thirty and then each of claiming old age decided to call it a night.

I remembered that I wanted to buy a keychain for our new key to the cottage and jumped on Amazon and Etsy to look at some options. I settled on a red and white key strip with the Canadian flag on it. It looks like those pull tags you see on missiles and bombs before they are loaded onto the planes.

Anyway, it should help us remember what that key is for and a make it easier to find in the future. Otherwise, it would just become another key that we have no idea what it’s for.

My stock prices increased again today.

Things are going well on that front.

Tomorrow is shaping up to be a writing day for me and some overtime work for Robyn. We’ll be busy with Father’s Day celebrations at my sister’s place on Sunday. So, Saturday needs to be a productive time for me. I have an assignment to complete for Sunday.

I’ll be sleeping in tomorrow to make sure I am rested for the long writing session.

Then later in the evening we are taking the family to see Toy Story 5.

It’s been a long day and an even longer week.

Time to get some shut eye.

Until tomorrow.
