#271 - Poor Man's Makhani

Do you get tired of hearing how much I love to sleep in?
Well, buckle up because that’s exactly what I did this morning. I was ushered out of bed when I received messages from one of the IT guys from work. The messages indicated that they had fixed my work PC issues by reinstalling Python.
I needed to log on and run a few tests to see if it had solved my problems. And sure enough it had. And almost immediately afterwards I received a message from my supervisor asking to having a meeting with myself and the other lead.
The was not unexpected, as she was set to be off Monday and Tuesday and we would be taking on her responsibilities. We talked about the things that had recently changed, topics to broad with our team at the next meeting and made a game for the day and the beginning of next week.
It was good meeting and we got through a fair bit of work stuff.
For the next hour or so I was back to doing approvals and looking over things for the next few episodes. My supervisor is taking a week off again soon and that means I will be in charge of this next episode and sitting in all the meetings. That requires more due diligence on my part to get ready for the meetings and to be able to ask the right questions.
Then it was back to going through the artist’s work and doing approvals and revisions. That took me until noon, when we went for our walk through the woods. The kiddo and her friend were supposed to join us, but they opted for exercising at the gym. It was the perfect day to talk a walk in the woods. We encounter some feisty and friendly dogs at the start and only one or two cyclists. That’s a good day on the trail in my opinion.
The nice thing about a lunchtime walk is the amount of thinking you get to do. Your mind eventually wanders and drifts towards imagination or something that has been bothering you. I must not have an isssues at the moment because mine mind was daydreaming as I walked and only interrupted by cyclists ringing their bell to get you off the path.
Once we were back home, I made some malt bread and snapped of a hunk of cheese for my lunch. My next meeting wasn’t until three thirty and I wanted to do a little preparation for that meeting by review the current assets coming out of our Design department.
Satisfied that I had done as much as I could for the meeting, I returned to doing approvals and revisions.
The fellow I subscribe to on YouTube that built a solar boat had a new video out and I put it on while I worked, I laughed out loud when he announced that their dinghy had been stolen for a third time in Spain. Why anyone would want these little boats is beyond me. They were essentially worthless to anyone else.
In the video the had to buy a cheap kayak and lock and chain to make it harder for people to steal. Just based on this guy’s experience, there seems to be a great deal of crime there.
I put on an episode of For All Mankind to play while I worked and it took me until all the way up until the meeting started.
This meeting is for multiple departments to all get together and discuss ideas, needs and wants, as well as gripes. We also share news and things were are doing to improve efficiency.
It was a good meeting, but I left it thinking that we didn’t have enough assets for the next show ready for us to start the work. Luckily, they have a few weeks before we get to that episode.
After the meeting, the day seemed to fly by and it was five thirty before I knew it. I headed down to the kitchen and cut up some chicken breasts. I spiced them with curry powder, garam masala, cumin, salt, ginger and finally garlic powder. I through the pieces into a frying pan with melted butter and olive oil.
From the pantry, I fetched a jar of pre-made makhani sauce and added it to the mostly cooked chicken breasts along with a little splash of water. I let it cook down for ten or fifteen minutes until the sauce thicken back up and voila!
A quick and easy Chicken Ruby. I added some pomegranate seeds from the fridge and served it with basmati rice and naan bread. The sauce was spicier than the one I make, but not uncomfortably so. It lacked to richness and robust flavour the homemade version has, but in a pinch, it was still very tasty.
It made for a good fifteen-minute dinner, because there was no way if was going to make the real thing for hours and hours this evening.
It’s Friday baby! And this fella doesn’t feel like cooking. Even though, I did cook. I guess I wasn’t in for making a big production out of it. Robyn enjoyed it and that’s good enough for me.
Robyn headed out to her support worker job and I headed straight for the bedroom and put on another episode of For All Mankind. I was all about relaxing as soon as possible. Kidd o #1 had left earlier to go to a RibFest and brought back a large bag of kettle corn.
I poured myself a bowl of it and grabbed a bubbly beverage and continued watching the show.
Robyn returned from her work an hour later and we put on an episode of Dutton Ranch. Kiddo #2 appeared and asked Robyn to watch some Toy Story shorts with her. I found myself putting For All Mankind on again until she returned a little while later.
At that point we watched the latest episode of Waiting for Wrexham and watched as they tried to get promoted into the next higher league. No spoilers here. The editors of that show are doing a fabulous job of keeping it entertaining and gripping.
Then we watched two episodes of The Agency, which took us up to twelve thirty. And sleepiness started to make itself felt.
We really watched a lot of TV this evening, but I think we were both nackered from the week. It was nice just to sit and not have to think about anything for a while.
Robyn rolled over and went to sleep while I fired up the laptop to get some writing started. I hadn’t written anything all day, and I have a lot to do to keep my quota for the month.
Since we get to sleep in tomorrow as late as we want, I figured I would stay up a little while longer and get some words in. The majority of the heavy lifting will have to happen on Saturday and Sunday. Ideally, I would write enough to meet the quota by Sunday night.
I almost forgot that the racoon removal people are coming by this weekend to do an assessment and to give us a quote. No more freeloaders living in the attic!
But I am falling asleep at the keyboard.
Time to throw in the towel and call it a day.
Until tomorrow!
