#278 - Short and Sweet

It was tough getting out of bed this morning after staying up late to write the night before.

I woke up alone, Robyn had managed to leave the room without waking me up, a true sign that I needed the sleep.

Logging into my remote PC, I got caught up on messages and got started on doing some approvals. There wasn’t much going on today and no meetings were scheduled. Sometimes it’s nice to have a day just to get work done, and today was one of those days.

By noon, the temperature outside was in the forties with the humidex added in. There was no way I was getting Robyn out to take a walk, but I felt I really needed the exercise. So, while Robyn headed to the basement to use the treadmill, I ventured outdoors.

It was like walking in a convection oven. The breeze was steady but warm. My stiff back and buttock muscles protested with each step, and in no time loosened up. I’m sure the extreme heat had something to do with that. As much as the hot temperatures were making me sweat to death, each step felt better on my muscles. I returned home feeling like a new man.

A sweaty man, but a new man.

It was right back to work after getting a couple of cool drinks from the garage. The rest of the day was also interruption-free, and we were all able to just get things done. It was a great feeling. I finished up all my tasks around 5:45 and then headed downstairs where I puttered around until Robyn left for her second job.

Right around that time, I got a call from kiddo #2 asking for a ride home from his work. His sister was supposed to do it, but she fell asleep after returning from work. And then her old friend from school turned up to stay for the weekend. So, it was up tp me to fetch the kiddo, who also had a friend on the way over for a night out and a sleepover.

It’s a full house this weekend, it would seem.

I had a little time to kill before Robyn got back from her hour of work, so I grabbed some chicken breasts from the fridge and made a mustard cream sauce to go with it. It was one of those cooking sessions where I just make stuff up. The lovely, saucy chicken needed something to go with it, and I chose basmati rice.

Robyn returned just as I finished cooking, so we plated it and had a meal with just the two of us at the kitchen table.

My mini chainsaw arrived from Amazon today, and I think it’s going to come in handy for trimming branches around our garden. I haven’t tried it out in the real world yet, but I have some tree maintenance to do tomorrow where the branches are too thick for shears or my pruners.

After dinner, we retreated to the bedroom to watch Dutton Ranch and the first episode of the newly released third season of Silo on Apple TV. I’ve read all the books for this series, and I have enjoyed both versions so far.

I’m feeling pretty wiped out and I plan to do a lot of writing tomorrow for my mentor assignment, so I’ll end things here so I can get a good night’s sleep.

Until tomorrow.
