#308 - Racing to Finish My Mentor Assignment

I was able to get plenty of sleep last night. I woke around noon and would have preferred to stay in bed.

Outside the rain was a constant drone.

Robyn woke up before me and had bacon, eggs and toast made for the whole family. I made an instant coffee to go with it. It was a great way to start my day.

We decided that today was a good day to go to town and grab some items we needed. I’d completely forgotten my toothbrush, so that was a high priority on my list. I had to brush my teeth with a cotton swab last night.

As we arrived in town the rain seemed to get worse. Our first stop was to the antique/coffee/taco shop. They usually have some cool antiques that are fun to see. Robyn found a tea pot for her collection and then had a diabetic low. The kids got her a ginger ale and a cookie while I ran back to the car for her glucose tablets.

We headed back outside into the rain. Ony Robyn had thought to bring an umbrella, but I realized I had one of the chair umbrellas in the back of my car. I grabbed that for myself, and the kids spied my beach umbrella and took that with them. They walked down the street side by side looking a little ridiculous with this giant umbrella between them.

We hit a few more stores that the kids liked and then hit the larger general store. I always keep my eye out for a nice Haliburton hoodie, but I haven’t seen one I liked at a decent price point. I found a trucker style ball cap with Haliburton on it that fit my head nicely. Often ball caps look to small on my giant head.

After all the frivolous shopping was done, we headed to the grocery store and got a cart full of items. Then it was back to the cottage where I took a two-hour nap. I was completely wiped out from the previous week and the Friday night writing marathon, not to mention all the driving to get here.

By six I was setting up my laptop out on the screened porch. The rain still came down in buckets, but I find the sound of rainfall good for writing. I started by reviewing what I wrote previously and trying to make some small improvements.

We stopped and had dinner around eight. I reheated the Chicken Ruby and Robyn mrowaved some basmati rice and chana masala. The meal was enjoyed by all and because it was precooked the prep was short and easy, the way a cottage meal should be.

I got back to writing directly after dinner.

It’s now three o’clock and I am finally moving further forward into the story. The introduction has take a bit too much time and probably could use some more work.

If the story progresses as I think it will, I will need to go back to the beginning and add in a new character. But I can deal with that later. The important thing now is to get the story written.

I’ll stay up until about eight AM to get it finished. That should be about five AM where my instructor lives. And then I get to finally relax and enjoy the cottage for the rest of the week. Although I imagine tomorrow is going to be a rest and recovery day like I haven’t had in ages.

If all I do is stay in bed and sleep, I am okay with that!

Anyway, I am going to end this blog here and get back to the task at hand.

Time is running out.

Until tomorrow.
