#322 - Story Time

I took the opportunity to sleep in for as long as I could get away with today.

That turned out to be elven am, when I opened my eyes to Robyn reading in bed. She got up and made us a light breakfast of egg bites with toasted English muffins and jam. She even made us some tea. A great way to wake up to a Sunday morning.

We watched an episode of Lioness and then got ourselves out of bed. I went and cut the lawn and Robyn moved out onto the back deck to continue reading.

I got very sweaty cutting the lawn and using the edge trimmer. And sat outside with Robyn and let my body cool down. The weather was warm and a touch humid, and maybe it would have been better to cool down inside, but I little extra sweating isn’t such a bad thing for a chubby guy like me.

I think I may have drifted off for an hour while we were out there. The next thing I knew, we were heading over to our friends Paul and Laura’s. They had some outdoor furniture for us to replace the chairs on our front porch. The chairs we had were taken from the end of neighbor’s driveway when they were throwing them out. So, we were more than happy to effect a little upgrade.

They also had what I am calling my new writing chair for us to bring down as well. Robyn and I double teamed the chair from their first floor without managing to break anything.

Then it was back to our place to swap out the porch chairs. The new ones are a better build quality, and they even have a reclining function with a little footrest that comes out.

A definite upgrade for sure!

We double teamed the black electric recliner down to the basement, where I took over to manhandle it into my writing cave. I plugged in the power and gave it a test. The only thing that would make it better is if it rotated, to make it easier to get in and out of. It’s not a chair that was meant for a desk. But with my lap desk and my laptop it fit perfectly between the armrests.

The reclining function felt great and very natural in writing position. And the two cup holders worked out just great.

It was already six o’clock by this time and I needed to get started on my assignment story. I had planned to start way earlier that this, but once again the day got away from me.

I got to work on the opening after spending a little time going through some story ideas. I settled on one of them and got writing. At some point, I closed Word. This is usually not an issue because all my blog posts live on the cloud. But I forgot that my short stories are saved locally and so I lost all my work. It was only about two hndred and fifty words, but it really hurt my morale.

There was nothing for it, but to start again.

At least I had the idea still in my head and after about half an hour I was back where I started.

The new chair is working out great. I grabbed a think pillow to put behind my back for extra support and I haven’t felt the need to get out of the chair or any pains this whole time.

It seems like me and this chair are going to spend a lot of time together. Some of the pleather is peeling of along the inner left hand side arm. I’ll maybe see about gluing back on with some PLA glue later next week.

The important thing is that it’s very comfortable and it works well with my current setup. I like the motorized up and down feature and I can adjust now and again to keep my body in slightly different positions to further reduce any fatigue.

It’s coming up on midnight, and I have just over one thousand words written. That’s me basically done with the opening. Maybe just a little more and we’ll be into the set up.

Time to get back to the story.

It’s now one fifteen and the writing is getting a little faster now. I took a break and watched some short videos before making myself a jam sandwich and another cup of earl grey.

I did about seven hundred words in the last forty minutes, which isn’t too bad. I think I will be up till the early morning hours again getting this done. Maybe six or seven am finish again. I’ll take another short break soon and then really try to get the story moving.

It’s now three am and I just finished a half an hour nap.

I’m up to 2100 words on the story and now getting into the plot a bit more. I’ll do a two-hour sprint and try to get another two thousand words done. Then at five am I ll take a ten-to-fifteen-minute break and do and then do another two-hour sprint with the goal of wrapping the story up at 6000 words by seven am.

Wish me luck.

In the end I finished the story around six am and it came in at just over four thousand words.

Very tired.

Bed now.
