#324 - Value Village Find

Ah! What a great sleep I had.
I felt replenished from my all-nighter writing session from Sunday night and Monday morning. I went straight down to the kitchen and made myself a tea and one of those microwavable breakfast bowls.
Then it was time to log in and keep going on the approvals and revisions. I also had to check in with our production manager to see if any of the assets we were waiting on were available to us yet.
They were not.
The show is due on Friday, so you can imagine how impossible it will be to finish on time when the things we need to do the show aren’t completed. This is, unfortunately, not that unusual for many shows we work on.
There has been a shift from some of our partners to do a show a week, and it just means we are going to fail, because they will fail before us. It’s a bit of a domino effect and the cause of a lot of unnecessary stress. The only thing to do about it is to stop caring about the deadlines and just get done what you can. Developing time-saving strategies and software also help us keep an edge over other studios.
I wasn’t expecting any help on this episode I am in charge of, but one of the other leads offered her services early in the morning and the extra hands was very welcomed.
Soon it was lunchtime, and there was nothing that was going to stop the two of us from walking at the park under the shade of the trees. And it was a beautiful walk. The weather was great, and there was a wonderful cooling breeze. We both mentioned how much we missed being here.
On the way back an older couple on e-bikes stopped to talk to us. There were a very friendly couple who were camping in one of the sites near the trails. We really didn’t have the time to stop and talk to them, but we did and I thought afterwards that it is a shame the world is like this.
It reminded me of the Christian Bale interview I watched yesterday. He mentioned that the first two years in America were times he hated. He was used to walking over to friends to hang out uninvited, but in north America it is consider the height of rudeness to show up unannounced.
We said our goodbyes to the couple and headed home. A construction crew had blocked most of the ways into our street as they were paving the roads, so we had to take the long way around.
I got back to work at home after grabbing a Dr. Pepper, and continued as before and handing out extra assignments to those who needed them.
At three o’clock, we had a companywide town hall to lets us know the state of things as well as officially announcing that some new projects were green-lit and productions start dates were given. I can’t mention what the projects are, but they were big productions with some big clients. All great news for an industry that has been stale for so long.
I finished the workday doing the same as before and packed things in just after five. I wanted to go shopping for a sport jacket to wear to a wedding, but first I needed a shower. And of course, I couldn’t just do that. The light in our shower blew, and I needed to get the power drill, step ladder, and a new bulb to replace it.
I was able to shower and head out shopping.
I checked out the selection at Value Village first, hoping I might get lucky. Sure enough, I found a blue jacket that fit and looked to be in good shape. I sent a picture of me wearing it to Robyn and got the wife's approval before buying it.
It cost me less than $20, and I was more than happy to pay that price.
Canadian Tire was next on my list to get some more bulbs. It seems you can’t find incandescent bulbs anymore, which it a shame for a shower bulb as they aren’t on for very long anyway.
That done I checked out Walmart to see what kind of pants they had. Haggar made a nice stretchy pant that looked dressy. I found a pair and they fit very comfortably, but the colour doesn’t go well with the sport coat. I may have to shop for some pants to go with the jacket over the next few days.
Back home, I got a call from kiddo#2 who found a small bird a work that had flown into a window. He brought it home and is now caring for it in his room. I’m sure it’s only a matter of time before the thing escapes and is flying uncontrollably around our house.
Robyn came back from our second job, and we put on an episode of Ted Lasso followed by the season finale of Lucky. Lucky has been an okay show, I can’t say I loved it though. It was a bit of what you might expect from a heist show.
I have to go into the studio tomorrow as we are celebrating the tenth anniversary of the Toronto studio opening. I am hoping to get some company swag and there is likely some free food, most likely pizza.
I submitted some of the photos I have taken over the years to the team organizing it. I think they are going to put some kind of presentation together.
Either way, I need to get my beauty sleep after pulling the all night-er and all morning-er on Sunday/Monday.
Time to take the tart cherry pill and the magneisium glycinate to ease my sleepy self into a dreamy state.
Until tomorrow.
