#326 - Urban Maharaja and a Screening
Share
Up at seven again to head into the studio.
I used the drag your ass method of getting ready for work and as a result we ended up leaving the house a bit later than usual.
I’d kept Robyn waiting and she let me know all about it!
The train we should have taken was 16 minutes late and that meant the train was packed to the rafters with people. I managed to get a seat stuffed into the corner, but Robyn was not so lucky and ended up standing in the aisles for the whole ride.
I offered to switch seats, but she preferred to stand and read her book.
It was a nice morning, and the temperature was cool for a change. I think my car exterior thermometer read 17 degrees Celsius when we were driving to the station.
We took the route along the Esplanade and turned down the alley way to get us to the au Pain Dore café where I bought us breakfast sandwiches, and I shared a can of my Alano energy drink outside on the patio. Once again, I was in no rush to get to the studio, even though Robyn wanted to leave. I managed another five minutes of joy, joking that if she kept trying to end my small moments of joy, I would stop inviting her.
The boss worked from home today and the other lead was away to the cottage which left me all to my lonesome. Luckily, it wasn’t a heavy day for questions or people asking for assignments and I was able to get quite a bit done.
At eleven thirty, we screened the first two completed episodes of our show in the large screen room with a big projector. Our clients sent over some gourmet donuts as a nice treat for us to have during the screening.
I picked out a glazed sour cream and took a seat.
It was great to see all the hard work from all the teams come together into the finished project. It makes putting in all the effort a little more worth it.
We had leftovers for lunch in the cafeteria with friends and had a good laugh.
Then it was back to work getting as many approvals finished as possible and making the art director revisions. I was racing to get as much done for Friday as possible since that should have been when the show was due. I think it will be Monday before we get everything in and approved.
We were both working like crazy when I finally realized the time. The day was over and we had worked a little past the end of our usual day. We headed down the Esplanade towards the station enjoying the temperature and the unusual sensation of not having to be somewhere.
I had the idea to grab our dinner at Roywood’s Caribbean when we passed an Indian restaurant called the Urban Maharajas. We both love a good Indian meal, so it wasn’t too hard to decide. They had a nice patio and since the weather was so nice we at there.
Oddly, they had me make a reservation even though the place only had three other tables. I kept waiting for there to be a mad rus, but only one other table was seated the whole time we were there. I think they just wanted to get my phone number to sell to a list or something.
I am sure I will be getting all kinds of unsolicited calls in the near future.
We ordered the Royal platter which had two kinds of chicken, some grilled shrimp and bits of beef. And of course, you need to have some basmati rice and naan bread. My favourite drink at an Indian restaurant is Cheetah Mango beer, which they had!
The price of the meal was not worth the amount we received in our opinion, but the flavours were great and we enjoyed every bite. Their naan bread was fantastic.
We wobbled the rest of the way to the station with our full bellies and managed to get on a train after about a fifteen-minute wait. It was a packed train, standing room only by the time it left the station, but we managed to get two seats together.
It was a noisy ride home with people having full-on conversations on their phone. It kind of looked like a mad house where all the inmates were talking to themselves.
We had a nice drive home with less traffic due to the latter hour and we both had the same desire to flop on the bed and watch a little TV.
Instead, I went and watched some YouTube while Robyn curled up with her daughter and snoozed.
When she returned to me, we watched an episode of Silo and by then it was ten pm and Robyn went out like a light.
I had to do my writing and take my sleep aids.
But by eleven I was in bed with the full intent to fall asleep.
Until tomorrow.
