#327 - Annoying Egos

I knew it was going to be a hectic day before I even woke up.

It’s a Friday and we try to complete a show in a week if possible. There is the urge to get things done with the accompanying pressure. I had some work to assign first thing but before I could get to it the questions started rolling in. And after that was all done, handing out new assignments only brought on more questions.

It was a rough start to the morning for sure.

Things smoothed out around eleven and I even had a meeting canceled which freed up even more of my time. Thank the universe for that!

Robyn had dentist appointment for eleven thirty, and we decided to do our walk after she got back. The appointment ran a bit late and we didn’t get out of the house until about twelve thirty, but there was no way I was going to miss walking today.

It was a great day to be out in the fresh air with the temperature coming down to just above body temperature. As we went further along the trail a man with two dogs walked towards us. One of the dogs lost it’s shit charged us and started barking wildly. It veered off at the last second and you can bet I had two hands protecting the family jewels.

As the man passed, he said it was her way of saying hello. We both told him we did not like the way she did that. He scolded his dog telling her she would never make any friends.

I fear he is right about that.

With the walk over, we returned home and I made us a grilled cheese sandwich using some sourdough bread. We were all out of butter, so I had to improvise using olive oil, salt and a bit of garlic powder as a replacement.

It turned out to be good, and only afterwards did I remember that mayonnaise makes for good and crunch grilled cheese outer shell. My version worked out great and it may have even been a healthier option.

I got back to work revising an approving work when I realized some of the designs we received were using a layer type that we can’t use in the animation program. I looked up who had done the design and contacted them to let them know we couldn’t use this portion of their work and why.

We set a time to speak next time in person when we would both be at the studio and we could go over the files.

An hour later I get a message that the design has been revised by the supervisor and then I get a message from a director asking me not to talk to directly to the design team. Well, they suggested I feel free to talk to a design supervisor first, which is the same thing as saying don’t talk to the team members.

My natural reaction is to tell them I will talk to anyone I damn please, thank you very much. It always amazes me how many of the people in the industry have imposter syndrome and will work harder to protect their ego that do the actual work that is needed.

I let it bother me for a few minutes, shook it off and then got back to work. The show must go on as they say.

But, as you can probably imagine, I was more than happy when the day finally ended and the weekend had arrived. I headed downstairs, where I found Robyn cutting what vegetables we had left in the fridge and adding some Italian sausages to a sheet pan.

She put it in the oven and then bolted out the door to her second job. I set a timer on my phone for the food and then received a text from Robyn asking if I could take care of the food. All was in hand. I got you, girl.

I took my book and a Dr. Pepper out to the front porch and sat in our new-used reclining chairs. What a comfortable way to read. The temperature was just about perfect and just before I went outside, some of kiddo#2’s friends arrived and went to the back deck. It was the perfect time for us to be at opposite ends of the house.

I was at an interesting part of the book, where the crew is refitting the engine in a ship. They get it all fixed and realigned. There are good feelings and celebrations amongst the crew that fixed the ship, then almost immediately things get worse. It was masterfully written and staged. A sign of a really good book is when you catch yourself smiling at fictional characters that have achieved something and you feel like you were a part of that success.

I read until my alarm went off for the food and then resumed my spot on the porch. I stayed there until Robyn returned from work and then we ate together in the kitchen with a view of the crazies on the back deck being young adults. Everyone was smiling and laughing at least.

We retreated to our room and watched three episodes of Maximum Pleasure Guaranteed and then Robyn decided she was ready for bed and we stopped watching. I had to start my writing for the night, so it was probably a good thing we stopped. It will give us one or two episodes to watch tomorrow or Sunday.

We also heard from a friend that has been out of work for a while, that they accepted a new position today. It isn’t in the animation industry, but any job is welcomed now.

I spent a few minutes getting my suit and pants ready for the wedding we are attending tomorrow as well as shaving my head. Got to do what I can to look sparkly for the bride andg groom.

The wedding is for our friend’s john and Jody’s eldest son, first to be married and his fiancée. Should be a fun day, but the weather is forecast to be rainy for the next two days. So, I hope there will be some indoor parts to the whole shebang.

Well, this week has been tiring and annoying. I am exhausted from chasing down all the things my team needed and didn’t get. I am happy to have won some of those battles, and completely aware that it all starts again on Monday.

Here’s to a great weekend!

Until tomorrow.
