#341 - Cottage Bound

I woke late, knowing my first meeting was at ten.

I didn’t get any messages in the morning for change, so I stayed in bed for as long as I was able too.

The meeting was between myself, my supervisor and the art director. It was a good chat about how things were going with some fun personal stuff as well.

I spent the day doing approvals until lunch and then I convinced Robyn to join me for a short walk around the neighbourhood. We both agreed we needed a little fresh air. The walk was hot and sweaty, but made us feel better.

I returned to work after making us a small roast beef on sour dough, fried in butter and with some cheese and muffaletta added. Muffaletta is my new favourite thing to add to a sandwich since I found out they put on the Fortino’s porchetta sandwich that love so much.

Robyn tried it for the first time and loved it too.

I had a three o’clock meeting, which was part 2 of the meeting from yesterday and I just mainly listened in.

The rest of the day went fast, and I nipped downstairs to peel some pears and then poached them in some Beaujolais, sugar and cinnamon with a little clove. I also roasted the chicken to have with the makhani sauce for some chicken ruby. With that done all I had to do was pack my bag and load the car.

Or so I thought.

Once work was over for the day, I headed to Sobeys to buy some naan bread and some snacks for the cottage. After an Indian meal I always crave chocolate, so I got lots of those. I ffound the last case of Dr. Pepper alone and left battered under a shelf and picked that up to. Didn’t want to be without my favourite soda this weekend.

I gassed up the car and by the time I got home, Robyn was just finishing up her second job. We packed the cars and left for the cottage.

We had to stop at the King City En Route. I think it has become tradition now. Everyone else needs a pee and they get some food usually from Popeye’s or Subway. I chose to just get a burger, no fries or drink, from Burger King. I was surprised at how small the burgers and buns are these days. Not what I expected for seven dollars.

With our bellies full and our bladders empty we headed back on the road. The GPS said we had an hour and a half left to go, meaning we would arrive sometime around eleven.

The rest of the drive was lighter in traffic and more relaxing for it.

We arrived in pitch darkness, but the trail lights were on and it gave the place a magical feeling. We hauled our gear up to the cottage and I emptied the cooler into the fridge.

We chatted in the kitchen for a bit and then headed into the living room to sit on the more comfortable leather chairs and sofas. We chatted with Robyn’s sister and her husband until about one AM, when we all decided it was time for bed.

I had to keep  my blog streak going and get some word quota so I stayed up and did a little bit of writing.

It’s been a long day with plenty of driving.

I should sleep like a baby.

Until tomorrow.
