#344 - A Day of Rest!

I was definitely all set to sleep in today. I woke up at around nine thirty and noticed Robyn was gone.
Then I remembered she was seeing her friend for breakfast at Denny’s, and I pondered whether I should roll over and go back to bed or get up. I put on the TV and watched an episode of the Gentlemen and thought a slow start to the day was called for.
After the episode was done, I went downstairs and Robyn had returned and was working on some freelance work. I went back upstairs and watched the newest episode of Dark Matter and the started feeling a bit restless.
I went outside to check on the plants in the backyard, and they looked like they could use a bit of a drink. I watered everything well and then picked some tomatoes and three strawberries from the garden. The grass looked a bit unkept, so I mowed the front and back lawn to get things looking respectable once again.
That got me hot and sweaty and I retreated to the back deck to recover under the shade of the canopy. I played a game of chess to keep up my streak and sipped a cold drink while I dozed and cooled off.
Next, I emptied the dishwasher and cleaned up the kitchen a bit.
There I nothing more annoying to Robyn than coming into a dirty kitchen when she has been doing extra work all day.
I went upstairs and watched another episode of the Gentlemen and it just finished as Robyn came up, her work finished for the day.
We watched an episode of Lioness together and then Robyn napped while I watched Lantern.
I reheated the parsnip and pear soup, crumbled some goat’s cheese into the center and sprinkled it with warmed walnuts and pecans. The soup was great and Robyn toasted up some sourdough slathered in butter to go with it. It made for a quick and easy supper that was super tasty as well.
Then she had to leave to go to her support worker job and I filled the time with some YouTube videos.
When she returned, we watched an episode of The Westies, and then Robyn rolled over and was done for the night. She’d worked her two extra jobs on this day that was supposed to be a holiday so I couldn’t blame her for that. She’ll also have a very busy week next week too, so I am sure she wants to have as much extra sleep as possible when she can manage to get it.
I’ve just had my glass of tart cherry juice to help me go down to sleep smoothly tonight. I don’t want to be gkept up with thoughts about the car or what the workday might bring my way either.
The taste of this cherry juice has me wondering if I could poach the pears in this instead of a bottle of Beaujolais. It would be a bit cheaper and an alcohol-free version. A quick Google search tells me that cherry juice can indeed be used instead of wine. I have a feeling I might like that better than the wine version, but there is only one way to know and that is to make another a batch in the near future.
I have to remember to make an appointment for my ailing car tomorrow as well.
I think I’ll call it a night, even though it’s just after eleven. May as well start the day in a good spot with plenty of quality sleep.
Until tomorrow.
