#345 - Going for Broke
Share
I worked from home today and got to my desk around nine.
The messages were coming in fast and furious, and I had little time to dawdle about. I answered all the questions I could and then went downstairs and made myself a cortado. Some days are coffee days for sure.
I got to work on approvals and handing out the rest of the episode to the painters that needed work. Our goal was to try and get the show finished by end of day tomorrow, which I thought was a bit lofty, but worth shooting for. It basically meant we had to finish the last half of the show in two days.
I couldn’t see that happening, but we could possibly get close if everything went our way for a change.
I only had one meeting scheduled for today, and it wasn’t until three fifteen, plenty of time to get some work done. My focus was on approvals and sending the obvious corrections back to the painters. We needed to see the paintings in sequence to really understand if everything was going to work. Since this episode had a lighter and darker area with a gradient transition between the two, it had the potential to cause some problems.
And sure enough, later in the day, one of those issues made itself known and we knew there was going to be some readjusting to make it all work. My supervisor went through some of the paintings and made some calls of her own, and that means we will be doing revisions on top of getting the rest of the layouts painted.
Lunch arrived, and I went outside to look at the garden. I picked some strawberries and a handful of cherry tomatoes. I walked to the mailbox but found it was empty. It was nice to be out in the fresh air, and it was a lovely day, a little cooler than it has been recently. Perfect weather to be outdoors comfortably.
Robyn had too much on her plate today to take a walk, so a reheated some of the parsnip and pear soup, crumbled some goat cheese into and sprinkled it with pine nuts, pecans, followed by crushed walnuts.
I even toasted some sourdough, but since we were out of butter, I spritzed the bread with olive oil and added a little bit of salt. I call it emergency butter, and it got the job done.
After lunch I went back to my desk and noticed an ambulance out front of my neighbours. I went out to see what was going on. I couldn’t tell if my neighbour was in the ambulance or if they went into the house and left him there in good shape. He had a heart attack last year and of course we worried he may have had another.
Either way, he was seen by the EMT’s. We hope he’s okay. He’s a very nice man who is always helping his fellow neighbours.
I went back in and got back to work.
The three fifteen meeting was delayed by fifteen minutes, and I just basically listened into it as I had little to contribute. It’s good to hear it anyways as you never know what information will turn out to be useful or if someone says something that might affect your department.
When the workday was done, I felt like relaxing a bit and watched some television. I put on an episode of the Gentleman and then decided to make some dinner. Robyn had left to take a class, and I thought it would be nice if she came home to a home cooked meal.
We didn’t have much to work with, but I had a few baby potatoes, a bag of parsnips and some chicken thighs. I seasoned the chicken and veg and roasted it together in the oven.
I put another episode of The Gentlemen on while I cooked, watching from the living room tv.
I found a can of corn in the cupboard and that was what I made for dinner. It turned out to be really tasty, and my wife was delighted to have a meal ready and waiting for her upon her return.
After dinner, we headed out to Walmart to pick up some groceries since the cupboards and fridge were bare. The bill came to just over four hundred dollars. Boy, things are getting expensive out there. Granted we had to buy some extra things, but we didn’t get that much. Hopefully, we can make what we have stretch a bit this week and into next.
We still have plenty of the parsnip and pear soup left and those poached pears for dessert.
Back home we put on an episode of Ted Lasso as a good way to end the night with a bit of a feel-good comedy. And this episode was the new years episode, and it hit all the right buttons. Just what Robyn needed after her long day of work and extracurricular activities.
She went to bed after that and I went to do some writing.
I’m up early to go into the studio tomorrow, so I’ll keep this entry a bit short and call it a night. I’m not handsome enough to skip the beauty sleep.
Until tomorrow.
