#355 - Microwave Erectile Difficulties

It was one of those mornings when you wake up and have no idea what day it is and freak out a little.

I bolted out of bed and couldn’t find my phone to check the time and date.

Eventually, I found it under the covers and relaxed seeing it was nine. I feel I could have slept for hours if whatever it was hadn’t woke me.

There was text from Robyn, who was working downstairs, saying that the microwave installer would be at the house in minutes. I got dressed and headed downstairs just as the man arrived. He didn’t need anything from us, so I went back upstairs and fired up my work PC.

There was the usual flurry of messages and then things died down fairly quickly. Our Ottawa studio suffered a power outage and afterwards some of the internet equipment malfunctioned. I didn’t know it then, but they would be down all day.

But it did explain the reduced number of messages.

The installer finished and the new microwave looked great. I tried using the sliding exhaust tray and it popped out and when I pushed it back in it would click into place. I showed the installer and he told me there was nothing he could do about it. We had to call the Home Depot and get a new one, schedule a delivery, schedule a new installation date, and finally schedule a day to retrieve the damage microwave.

But, other than the malfunctioning ventilation slide, the microwave worked great and looks good.

Having seen my new headphone case the other day, Robyn expressed an interest in getting one for her own set. I ordered her the same one since she might be bribning them with her more often. Gotta protect those expensive headphones.

I spent the day working on a lighting guide for the painters to follow. I was able to use the new page we made for the tracker on Thursday to do this more easily. And shortly afterward, the head of design sent a message to say how much easier this specific job was, now that this page existed. I passed that on to the colleague would made the page and I think it made her day.

After I finished the lighting pass, Robyn and I headed out to the park for our lunchtime walk. It was a cool day with a nice breeze and was absolutely perfect for walking. It was a shame to have to go back to work afterwards.

I had a two o’clock meeting to listen into and I did more of the lighting pass as I listened. After it was done, I played about an hour of my audiobook. It was the perfect day to listen to an audiobook while working. No one was bothering me at all.

I switched over to doing approvals after I completely finished the lighting direction guide and put on some YouTube to finish up the day.

I watched an episode of Dark Matter while Robyn and kiddo #1 took a walk. Then I ordered a pizza from Blondies, and it arrived after Robyn had to leave for her second job.

I went downstairs to eat the food, and I even shared it with the kids. Both of them complained about the choice of toppings and I suggested that they should but the pizza next time instead.

While I was eating, I received a text from my neighbour. She found our number in her recently departed husbands’ phone and wanted to tell us of his passing and that he had thought say that we were good neighbours to have. Truth is he was the nicest of men and the first to offer a helping hand.

I asked about the service and the funeral, and she sent me a link to the funeral home. He was a nice enough guy that I’d like to attend his funeral and service. He’ll be missed for sure and his passing came so fast and without warning that it was a surprise and shock to all who knew him.

Robyn came back and I told her the news. We made plans to attend the funeral.

I offered Robyn some of the pizza and she used the new microwave to heat it back up. This new microwave has a sensor setting that automatically cooks certain foods. It had a reheat pizza setting that some reviewers have said is almost as good as using an oven. We tried it and Robyn said it worked well.

We watched the new Ryan Renolyds movie with Kenneth Brannaugh downstairs while she ate. It was a fun action thriller. A bit goofy and playful but also a good thriller ride too. Kenneth Brannuagh moved like a young Jackie Chan in his fight scenes.

We moved back upstairs afterwards and put on the daily show, followed by the first episode of Mobland’s season two. Another successful Guy Ritchie show about gangsters. It was another good episode and all the main characters returned for this season which really needed to happen.

Kiddo #2 went and purchased a new hamster this evening to replace the one that died prematurely. He decided to get a normal sized on this time round with hope that it might live longer that the miniature one. He also purchased a much larger aquarium to use as the little rodent’s cage. Lots of expenses for a guy who complains about not having any money all the time.

I’m glad the weekend is finally here. With all the craziness of car repairs, work deadlines and all the other things life throws at you, I am ready to get good night’s sleep and to sleep in as late as I want. There is no good reason for me to be up before noon tomorrow!

All these mornings I’ve had where I was jolted from a deep sleep tell me I am not getting enough. There may be some naps happening tomorrow as well.

Until tomorrow.
