#357 - Batteries Almost At Full

I was determined to stay in bed for as long as my body and mind needed.

I woke up feeling great and had no desire to get out of bed. Robyn was up and downstairs somewhere. The smell of French Toast lingered in the the air and then I heard people leaving the house. Kiddo#2 had a big date in Guelph and Robyn drove him to the Go Bus Terminal.

My started with YouTube because why wouldn’t it?

I went downstairs and microwaved a breakfast bowl and made a cup of earl grey.

Then I got bored of that and put on a movie starring Robert Deniro who was playing two roles in this movie. Would you be surprised to hear that he was playing the dual roles of New York gangsters? No, me either, well, maybe about the dual roles part of it.

I’m not sure the make up could hide the fact that both characters were De Niro. Either way, I got tired of it at some point and Robyn returned home so it was time to put on something else. We had the tail end of a Bill Maher episode to watch and then the season finale of Lioness on Paramount. It was nice to sit and snuggle up like a married couple.

I went down and made us a plate with everything on it for a snack and bit of lunch. I grabbed one of the Alani energy drinks because eventually we would be heading out to attend our recently departed neighbour’s visitation.

After the show ended, I headed outside for a while to get some fresh air. I water the seed and soil I had laid down the other day and already noticed some grass sprouting up through the dirt. I trimmed my roses and bound them up to the trellis, something I had been meaning to do all summer.

Having completed that, I sat on the deck in the cool afternoon and read my book until about four thirty. It was time to put on my suit and make our way to the funeral home. This was the first funeral I’d attended in Oakville, so the venue was new to me.

We greeted the family members and Bruce’s wife Jasmin. Many of his family had fond memories of our deceased cat Pepper. She apparently went over to visit them regularly and was quite friendly.

The visitation was an open casket. Bruce looked a little unreal laying in state. Both Robyn and I were touched that he thought of us at all in his final days and we felt compelled to attend the visitation. I will likely attend the funeral tomorrow to represent our family. Robyn has school and can’t make it.

We only stayed for about twenty minutes, and I take it that is pretty standard for these types of events.

Back home, we sat on the back deck, and we both read our books. It felt great to be reading again, and in such volume. It feels like I haven’t been able to read in ages. I was determined to finish The Sand Pebbles today and I came close to it.

I have one chapter left to read tomorrow and then I’ll have to find something else to read. Not that I don’t have a huge TBR (to be read) pile, in both digital and paper.

I stopped reading because Robyn went to bed early, at around nine forty-five and I didn’t want to keep her up. It was well past time for me to start writing anyway. My plans to start on my assignment this weekend got completely away from me. But that’s okay, because I feel so much better after getting caught up on sleep and relaxation.

Part of getting back to myself means I haven’t been hitting my word quotas this week and I figure I am about six days behind. That means I need to really hustle this week!

At one point in the day, I started looking at all-inclusive resorts for a February trip. I think the cost will be out of our budget for next year and it will be very difficult for Robyn to get the time off as she is in school, working and doing part-time service work.

Kiddo #1 made Robyn some food to take as lunch tomorrow. She somehow shattered the lid the rice maker in the process. Not that it’s a bother, the old Teflon coating was starting to peel away, and we know that stuff isn’t good for you. I ordered a new one that has a ceramic coating on the inside, so we don’t have to deal with that nonsense again. And the kiddo seems to like using it for her premade meal plans.

The Skull Candy headphones continue to work fine for me. The longer battery life is a real plus, and I don’t have to worry as much about charging them. I have them on right now as I write this, playing some classical music as well some instrumental soundtracks from movies. Right now, it’s one of the uplifting pieces from The Davinci Code. I find music without words works best for me when writing. Anything with lyrics can get in the way of the words I am searching for.

And if I am not listening to music, I’ll have some sort of white noise on, like the sound of a thunderstorm, the ocean or a rainforest. I think thunderstorms are the most effective for me. It gives me the sense that it is not nice outside, and I should just stay indoors and write.

And speaking of rain, I orderd another mini umbrella to replace all the ones that went missing. I like to have one that I put in my travel bag for commuting to work and have at least two in my car. One for the driver and one for the passenger seat.

I can only hope that these don’t go missing as well!

In keeping with my plan to recuperate, I am heading to bed at the early hour of ten thirty. I think I’ll just lie down in bed and listen to the last hour of my audiobook and try not to cry when it’s all over. I could consume the books in these series like a fat kid would a bowl of smarties.

Anyway, that’s all for now.

Until tomorrow.
