Copyright Stuff

Today someone in a writing forum asked if they should register their novel with the Canadian Copyright Office.
There has been a great deal of copyright chatter lately with the $1.5 Billion lawsuit settlement made by Anthropic to the authors whose work the fed into their AI without permission or paying for the usage.
It seems like anyone in the US who might get a part of settlement thathad to have filed a copyright notice for each individual piece that was used to train the AI.
What struck me as interesting was how little most writer's understand copyright law when it can be such a major part of the business.
Even more appalling is my own lack of knowledge. It's something I plan to remedy. To learn a little more about it each day seems to be the best way. I have signed up for a course that has weekly videos about the topic as it relates to writing. It's from a US based writer, editor and publisher couple.
But most of the info will translate into something close to what is true for me here in the North.
