More Starfleet Academy Rants and Word Counts

I watched the second episode of Star Trek: Starfleet Academy today, as I stated before I would keep an open mind and give it a chance.
All I can say is that I didn’t hate the second episode and in fact it was an improvement over the premiere. On aspect that is annoying to me, (and yes, yes, this blog is too short to list them all), is all the little robots flying around the academy/ship. They seem childish and out of place for the Star Trek universe, not to mention they are a distraction from the story telling.
This second episode was full of easter eggs for fans of all the series. Again, it feels like they are shoehorning these instead of just being in the background for the fans to find themselves. It’s as if they are afraid that we won’t notice all the references to other shows they added.
As for writing, I got well over the quota of 2026 words today as well as a good portion of my mentor assignment completed. I am having some fun with the story I am writing for the assignment. Tomorrow I am writing a fun sequence if a toddler on the run in a hotel. I think ‘I will write it through the toddler’s viewpoint to make it more of a fun challenge for me.
We had quite a bit of snowfall yesterday and today, which was nice. Growing up it seemed the snow stayed on the ground for most of the season. The last five years it snowed and then melted. This snow looks like it will be staying around for a little while. I like the clean look it gives the city and how it dampens the sound all around you.
My struggle to rise out of bed early hit a snag this morning. I slept very poorly last night, likely because we skipped our lunch walk due to the weather. As a result, I woke up at 8:30 instead of 7:30. It’s still earlier than my usual 9:30, but I didn’t expect it to go perfectly the first week. The key to any success I’ve had is to just keep showing up. Eventually you end up getting closer to what your goal was and look back at your early struggles and wonder why it was so difficult.
I finished my day with a consumable word count of 2600.
