Movie and a Gathering

We spent the last day of the year by getting up late, around ten AM, and heading to the Square One Cineplex in Mississauga. We had tickets to see Avatar: Fire and Ash.

At approximately three and a half hours long, it passed the sore butt test. If I start squirming in the chair, it's because the movie isn't distracting me from a sore butt.

The movie looks amazing, which is no surprise based on the first two in the series. It was entertaining as well. There were a few parts that seemed cheesy to me, particularly a section where the characters are signing as they talk. The arm movements and speech became comical, and it pulled me out of the story. And to be clear, it wasn't a funny moment in the story where this was happening.

All in all, we all had a good time at the theatre.

After the movie, I dropped the family off and went in search of some new leather winter gloves. I ended up finding a pair I liked and that fit my stubby little fingers. Think Barney Rubble.

Then back home for a nap before heading out to a friend's to celebrate the end of the year and the start of a new one.

We played a dice based horse racing game while feasting and drinking adult beverages, including a lovely eighteen-year-old Glen Morangie and twelve-year-old Macallan.

I had a chance to use their hot tub, which is a great way to end the year. We toasted in the new year and left around one thirty AM. For some unknown reason, we stayed awake until two thirty reading and scrolling through social media.

It's been an interesting year. I accomplished a lot of personal milestones in a year that threw everyone I know multiple curveballs.

I go to sleep with a positive mindset, looking forward to what this new year will bring us and excited to see what I can do in the next three hundred and sixty-five days.

To that point, I have joined a writing challenge to write 2026 consumable words a day for the entirety of 2026.

This gives me a goal to achieve that is also streak-based.

You can check out and join the challenge here.
