Much ado about nothing

I worked from home today, which is always nice on a Friday. It didn’t take long before the stress piled up. It is not unusual for people to start making demands on our department in the early stages of a show. And today we got a request to have something finished for Monday that we didn’t think had a deadline for weeks.
I was able to finish, but this kind of thing always adds unnecessary stress to your day.
The last-minute deadline meant I had to work an extra hour to get it finished as well. Not the ideal Friday, but I did get a video call from my producer saying I was getting a very small raise. And that’s a well-deserved thing to be happy about.
It was rainy most of the day and the ground is still covered in layers of ice, so I didn’t get my afternoon walk in. We decided to go and pick up the car from the dealership during our lunch hour. Thankfully, they didn’t charge us for the wonky heating problem as it was likely caused when they installed the wiring harness.
Needless to say, I was shattered by the time I called it a day. Went downstairs and reheated last night's dinner: sausages and roasted vegetables. Still delicious the day after. I like a good leftover dinner, saves me the bother of cooking.
The kid and some of his friends went out to go tobogganing, Which I thought was odd, because it had been raining all day. They’ve returned without having made a single run down the hill. No surprise there.
I made some butter toffee cookies, and Robyn and I watched the latest episode of Shrinking. They had some really good lines in this one. I do enjoy this show, though its not one I thought I would have liked. It has a lot of feel good moments, many artificial but adorable moments, and then there are the real-life bits.
Then we watched the first episode of ‘The Last Thing He Said to Me’. Not a bad show; it’s not my favorite, but it does the job. I’m not a huge fan of Jennifer Garner as an actress. It was good enough as a bit of a wind-down from the week.
I’ve got Anemone started and stopped a few times. It stars Sean Bean and Daniel Day-Lewis. It’s a bit of an arty film. Very slow and disjointed. I may never finish watching it.
Tomorrow, our niece and nephew are going to spend some time with us. They should be arriving by 9 am or so. Mommy and daddy need to test drive some cars here in Oakville, so we suggested they drop the kids off here while they go do that. We’ll likely take them to one of those indoor playgrounds to tire them out before we hand them back to their parental units. I am even willing to get up early on a Saturday morning for them, as is my duty as their favorite uncle.
I may even get up a little earlier to make a nice egg, bacon and toast breakfast to make sure I have all the energy needed to deal with the little rascals. Might be a good idea to have a cortado or two for the caffeine boost.
I saw U2 posted some music videos to protest the ICE deployment in Minneapolis. I listened briefly to a few of them and found them lack luster. They seem to have lost that magical spark they once conjured with ease. Many of the songs felt predicable. It’s like they have been stuck in the same musical loop for the last decade and more. And I am a fan, just not of any of their recent releases.
Even the Springsteen song was a but blah in my opinion. Maybe in time these songs will become the anthems for future generations. I am reminded of the Searching for Sugarman documentary. A guy from Detroit recorded an album, it didn’t seem to sell well, he gave up and went on with his life living in a run down part of the city. Meanwhile across the ocean in Africa, his music, one song in particular, became the theme song of their movement to end apartheid.
So, don’t worry Bruce and U2, there is still hope for those songs.
I still have Anemone on the TV. It has some interesting imagery in it. Seems like they were aiming for Oscar territory by the pacing and the dream sequences.
I keep wondering if Sean Bean will die at some point, or will his character make it all the way to the end in this one? This movie probably deserved more of my attention that I was willing to give it. The movie was directed by Daniel Day-Lewis’ son and written by both father and son. Brad Pitt and Daniel Day-Lewis producing. So maybe a bit of a vanity peace, or just father and son wanting to do a project together?
Okay time for bed, I have two little energizer bunnies showing up at the house first thing in the morning.
Nite all!
