New Year's Day

New Year's Day was a day of rest and relaxation for the family. We aren't the kind of people that have any kind of functions or get togethers on this day.
We all slept in and enjoyed a quiet day. The kids had partied hard at a pub called the Black Swan the night before and were in no rush to surface.
Robyn and finished watching the last three episodes of 'Start Up' on Netflix. They probably aren't going to make anymore seasons other that the three that are completed, but it was still an entertaining show.
People tend to think about their goals for the rest of the year right about now. I have most of my plan set already so their wasn't too much to ponder.
I have this blog to keep going in a daily basis to maintain my streak as well as the new 2026 words a day for the next year, which is a great excuse to start the three novels I have in mind.
I did calculate the word count if I did the bare minimum of 2026 words per day. It works out to 739, 490 words for the year. To put that into perspective, in 2024 I wrote a whopping 161,445 words. In 2025 I only did 48,250.
That means I write four and a half times more words than my best year and more than fifteen times more words than I wrote all of last year! Ooof!
Here are the terms of the challenge from their website:
Challenge yourself to average 2,026 words per day for the entire year of 2026. These would need to be consumable words.
What are “consumable” words?
— Any fiction of any type (no requirement to publish during the challenge time)
— Any nonfiction that others will consume such as blogs, introductions to collections, things like that.
— emails and comments on Facebook or blogs DO NOT COUNT.
If you average 2,026 words per day by the end of the year you get the following nifty awards...
I am required to report in monthly with the monthly average word count. This leaves a bit of leeway in the writing as it is an average. Meaning I can write a bunch one day and skip the next. It's the average for the month and the year that counts.
So expect these blogs to be a bit longer for a little while until the novel work starts or if I write a short story. Most of my short stories come in over 2500 words and often are closer to 4500-5000 words long.
Wish me luck as I add another challenge to my year, hoping I can make another unbreakable streak come true.
