Not My Cup of Tea Anymore

I gave, Star Trek Strange New Worlds Season 3, three episodes of my time. Well, to be honest, I never got past the third scene of the third episode.

And I can tell you the precise moment I stopped caring about the show. The opening scene was a parody of the original series with Kirk, Spock and McCoy. I think it was meant to be funny, or maybe nostalgic. I not sure when TV execs are going to figure out making fun of something people love is a dangerous business.

It has to be done very well.

The second scene sets up that this is probably going to be a holodeck episode, that likely takes place in the world of the first scene. The idea of spending anymore time in that world was not very enticing,

But it was the third scene, one in which a completely emasculated Spock is waltzing by himself in his quarters. At that moment, I 'd had enough. The episode previous he was pining over a relationship with Nurse Chappell. They did a whole wedding. I was sitting there watching it all and scratching my head.

And I love the look of the show. It's gorgeous.

But the writing and character degradation makes we wince. Its almost as if the people making it have never seen the original series or any of the movies. Or STTNG or DS9 or Voyager.

I loved Anson Mount in his role on Hell on Wheels, but they sure aren't giving him much to work with in Strange New Worlds. I'd be surprised if it gets renewed for another season,

Maybe I am just pining for some better sci-fi. The need to make all sci-fi silly is annoying.

ITs time for Battlestar Galactica, Foundation, Andor or an Expanse-like shows to be made again.

The fans of Sci-fi deserve better.
