Off to Cuba for a Week

We were up at 2:40 AM to catch a ride to the Pearson International Airport with our friends John and Jody. We were all travelling to the Royalton Hicacos resort in Varadero, Cuba.

And although our destination was the same, we were flying by different airlines and therefore different terminal, but since we did the Park n' Fly Valet, it was just a matter of getting on a different shuttle bus.

On board the plane we had three seats between the two us which made for a very comfortable ride.

Once we landed it was about a half an hour ride to our hotel on a nice coach bus.

Check-in wasn't until 4pm, and we ended up meeting some fellow Canadians, Lawry and Vina who we had lunch with at the beachside grill. It had an great breeze and an amazing ocean view.

After we got our room, we changed clothes and made a bee line for the beach, dropping our bags on a beach chair and racing into the ocean, We were pretty toasty at that point and the water was wonderfully refreshing.

After a good time at the beach we headed back to the room to cleanup and change for dinner. We ate at the Marche, which is their buffet restaurant. The food was great, (apparently really good for Cuba), and then we went ot the martini bar to meet our friends John and Jody for adult beverages while listening to traditional Cuban musicians.

By 9:30 pm we left and found seats in the amphitheater to watch the evenings entertainment. The show tuned out to be a lively rock show featuring two guitarists, a bass player, drummer and a singer. They were really talented and it was clear they were having fun up there. One of the guitar players was a dead ringer for GNR's Slash.

After a long and happy day we headed back to our rooms and let's just say we slept like the dead.
