Something about Nothing

Not much to report today.

I was up until about 12:30 am working on a not so short story and accomplishing my 2026-word quota. I ended up writing around 2700 words for the day.

Not too shabby.

I didn’t sleep well and as a result got up around 9:30. I was feeling worn out and maybe a little burned out as well. I avoided doing any kind of writing until about 4 pm and even then, only did about 500 words on the story. Mostly, it was adding in detail and additions to the scene I wrote last night that I thought would make it more interesting and fun.

I spent a portion of my day organizing my two work areas. One is my old area where I paint animation backgrounds for living and the second is in the dungeon where I do my writing and publishing work.

Now that I have the two spaces, I thought it would be beneficial to move some books and other writing paraphernalia to the basement. I purchased some wall file holders, magazine racks to hold my finished writing project and a holder to make aa home for my Kindle, iPad, and Pomera DM250 Writing Deck.

I have two Bluetooth keyboards by Nuphy that were upstairs as well and are only used for writing, so down to the dungeon they went.

When wasn’t doing that, I got stuck into another novella by Mick Herron from the ‘Standing by the Wall” Novella Collection. So far, all the novellas seem to flow into each other and what has happened in one affects the others.

I am getting to a point in this story where I’m not quite sure what to do with it. I may take a day off from it and try to write something shorter that I can complete in a day or two. Then jump back into it. Often my subconscious will wake me up in the middle of the night with an ah ha moment. And I’m hoping that might happen for this current chunky monkey of a story.

One thing I am starting to notice, and I think it bodes well for the entertainment industry, is a slew of new programs coming. Some are new seasons and some are brand new. I think I read they are doing a new Sherlock series this year. I really enjoyed those when n the first came out. Cumberbatch and Freeman made a good team.

The other side of course is movies. Streamers have been making made to stream movies for awhile now. But there also seems to be a readiness to make a return to the theater. Movies like Odysseus might have the weight to crash through the damn, allowing other movies to get green lit. I’m not saying we’ll have a return to the way it was, those days are lying in gutter somewhere. But it feels like the studios see a space for streaming movies and theatre movies and a sense that it’s okay to do both.

If this is true, then it’s only a matter of time before we start to get entertainment that people will want to talk about with their friends. Instead of commiserating together about how much we hate something, we can be excited to share and explore it at work and at home.

I still believe that of all the streamers, Apple TV is hitting out of the park on a regular basis. They don’t seem to be focusing on too many well-known properties or franchises but rather basing their programming from excellent novels. Which if you think about as your main strategy makes perfect sense. It’s the reason comic book movies worked so well at the beginning. The comic books are like beautiful storyboards, fully colored and well thought out.

I guess I had a bit more to say than I initially thought when I first began this blog tonight. Maybe I’m just stalling because I have no idea about this not so short story loaded into my copy of Microsoft Word.
