Story Deadline Looming

a bald writer with a trimmed beard and blue eyes wrestles with words

I have a story deadline in a few days for the mentorship program I am taking part in. I received the assignment last week, I had 11 days to hand it in and it's down to the last few days.

The person I am writing this story for is part of the reason for procrastination. She is a highly regarded, awarded and successful writer, editor and publisher.

One of the ways I get around the stalling, let's just call it fear, is to find my way into the story.

What do I mean by that?

In order for me to want to produce any kind of art I need to enjoy it. So I spent sometime yesterday and today thinking about the prompt my mentor gave me.

After some time the realization that there was a story I wanted to tell, or at least there was a novel idea that was banging around in my head, and this could be an opportunity to play in that fictional world came shining through.

As a result, I am now writing the story for me, and not for another person, and Boom! the joy returns. My subconscious mind started through scenes at me and story ideas, setting and items, which to me is always a good sign.

It means the child in me is ready to play / write.

Tomorrow will definitely be a writing day.
