The State of Animation

I started my day by making a cup of tea and toasting some of my homemade malt bread, which I then slathered in butter. Delicious!

Then I headed straight for my writing cave to watch the Sales Copy workshop videos. This is the second week of the workshop. From last week’s assignment, I learned that most of us writers are too afraid to say nice things about ourselves or our writing.

Which is funny, I guess, because we are supposed to be good at making things up that just aren’t true. And yet, when it comes to talking ourselves up, we are useless at embellishing our attributes for the sake of selling our stories.

I’ll admit, this is something I need to work on, and it’s likely something I wouldn’t have thought about if I hadn’t taken this course.

After taking the course, we headed to the dealership to pick up our car. It cost us almost $6000 to get repairs done on my wife’s car. And we aren’t in the best financial position to afford that right now. But needs must.

One of the issues we are facing is the decline in the entertainment industry. Both my wife and I work in the animation industry, and there isn’t much work out there right now for all sorts of reasons, which I have talked about in other posts.

I talked to one of my friends from work today and he asked me what my thoughts were on the state of the industry. I bluntly told him I thought we were all F**C*D. We talked a bit about what other jobs we might consider to be able to get. Almost everyone I know in the animation industry is preparing their own parachute or just leaving the industry for good. It’s sad to see things getting this bad for so long.

On to sunnier topics. I completed my 2026-word quota today before 11 pm. And that’s nice for a change. I did four half-hour sessions with breaks in between. Two breaks were on the treadmill watching Peaky Blinders and a third was watching other writers writing routine on YouTube. I am always fascinated by other creatives' working habits.

I think I'll try to get two more Half hour sprints in tomorrow. Hoping to do them in the morning before 10 am.

This blog is the 133 consecutive post. The power of streaks!

The location of the BYOK is frustratingly inconsistent with the shipping company. As far as I can tell, it is still somewhere in California. But that data is from Monday, as they do not update with any real rhyme or reason.

Well, that’s it for tonight. I am going to reward myself for getting my daily word count done before 11pm with some reading time.

Good night!
