Waking up is sooo Hard!

I had another decent day today. Still getting used to writing every single day instead of in massive bursts. The current short story is now the longest story I have ever written coming in at a little over 9200 words. And it’s not even finished. Could be another 3000 – 5000 words before this one is completed.
I am still failing at getting up in the morning at 7 am to get in some morning writing, so I have come up with a way to trick myself. And like most problems the best way to deal with them is to divide them into smaller pieces.
A big reason I think I am failing is that I know the reason to get up early and then go down to the dungeon is to write. Therefore, I will remove the need to write part and change it to “You just have to get out of bed when your alarm goes off.” After I have successfully woken up at the right time for a few days in a row, I can add the writing contingent back in.
They say when you are trying to build new habits it’s best to do it one at a time.
At the same time, I am still happy to see that my daily word count continues to slowly rise.
Another change I need to make is getting to bed before 11 pm. Staying up until 1 or 2 am means there is no chance I ‘ll get up by 7. To do that I need to get my daily word count quota completed before bedtime. Right now, the dilemma is that to get my quota done I have to write late into the night. If I write late into the night, I fail to get up early and the cycle continues.
Tonight, I will go to bed just after 11pm, a little short on my quota, and force myself to get up early tomorrow morning.
I hope to complete the short story I am working on tomorrow, as I have a writing assignment due this Saturday that I am looking forward to dive into. The last assignment I handed in is well received and a fun challenge.
I also have taken a sleeping aid tonight, not something I would recommend you do often, but in this case, I am trying to reset my sleep times and getting a good night’s rest will help ensure I feel good about an early morning.
And as I have mentioned before, I’ll need to get up at this time in February as I will be returning to work at the studio. When that happens, it means I’ll need to get up at 5 am if I hope to keep things going for the writing challenge. There is a chance my word count will increase organically with all this extra practice as well.
Finger crossed.
See you tomorrow!
