Word Count Etc...

I finished up my mentorship short story today and really enjoyed the process. I wrote it during two writing sessions over two consecutive days. This was a nice break from the longer story I have been working on during the past few days.
As for the writing challenge, my daily word count continues to steadily rise with each passing day. Writing every day is starting to feel normal. A thing I just do. I can see why established authors always say the most important thing you can do is develop a daily writing habit. It builds up your stamina. You get plenty of practice in and in theory, assuming you are still putting in time learning the craft, you should start see an improvement.
Getting up early every day, for me anyways, doesn’t include weekends. Yet. Maybe in the future it will need to. I had some success the week getting my butt out of bed when I did two things. Three if you count setting an alarm.
1. I sat up and planted my feet on the ground first thing. I may have sat there for a bit with my eyes closed, but that doesn’t matter. Just sitting up helped.
2. For this early stage, I removed any requirement to do anything. In other words, I just had to get up and out of bed. What I did after was of no consequence. This will change int the future but for now it seems to be working.
This week I am reading Mick Herron’s standing by the wall. A collection of Slow Horses short stories. So far, I have only read the first one, but Mick never fails to deliver. And I do love a good spy story. He also had a great sense of humour.
Last night we watched the premier episode of Hi/Jack season 2. The premise for this season seemed a bit hokey to me. Season one was on a plane and season two is on a train. And the show is called Hijack. I was curious how they would set the story up to have the same guy travel on hijacked train. But to my surprise I think they pulled it off. Check it out on Apple TV for yourself.
